As for its popularity, the simple answer is there are fans of every season and they all appeal to different people for their own reasons. So no sense wondering why it has fans. Everything has fans.

As for why people gravitate towards Appmon specifically, it’s some of the most spirited writing I’ve seen in Digimon. Everything’s just so lively! The humor is good, most of the characters (the Appmon in particular) are positive and full of energy, and even the more downbeat ones are full of idiosyncrasies. Then, to tie it together, they take these characters and end up putting them through a wringer of a finale, with clever takes on technology and AI the whole way.

I remember a while back everyone was making up fake digimon for fun after seeing what Digi-crest they were. I got the crest of Friendship and made my digimon based off a favorite albino buffalo plushie I had. I still freaking love how this came out!
