But @snappellroan and I had noted one particular thing in 8's house that gets overlooked:

There's a suitcase under 8's bed.

A locked suitcase, haphazardly shoved underneath and filled with a stack of prewar money.

None of the other houses (to my knowledge) have a stash of money like this. No secret cache.

According to Avellone, 8 was seen as more practical and level-headed than his colleagues:

And it makes me wonder, what if 8 had finally hit his breaking point before the Great War? What if he had hastily been preparing to abandon Big MT, saving up money to leave everything behind? All of those increasingly unethical and morbid and completely asinine experiments...they all just became too much. He couldn't take it anymore.

And what if, in the end, he'd been pressured — or even forced — to stay, and become a Think Tank? And even after centuries of brain degradation and being stuck in recursion loops, his fellow colleagues have a faint flicker in their deranged minds that their acoustician had slighted them somehow in the past. He had been planning on abandoning them.

Like, most of the major story beats, at least the ones that directly affect her, have a prominent visual component so she’s following along with the basics. But she has no idea who cave johnson is, or what wheatley was trying to explain to her, and she certainly wasn’t hurt by any of glados’ insults.
