My thoughts about writing and rhetoric have change from the beginning of this semester.I use to think about writing and made the assumption that it was all scholar in addition I believed that it was only text. Now that I learned that you can  use it for any purpose even if its not academic and that I learn how to use multi modal in a rhetoric composition I enjoy it more.

I learned that multi-modality can help you better explain your ideas because rather than just describing it you can show it. I also learned that when using multi-modality  one must have a balanced of text and visuals in order to make it effective. Furthermore, I learned that when using visuals it is important to describe it and explained with text too.  As I mentioned before this method did change my perception of rhetoric because I used to belief that it was just text and to me that was boring, now that I know about multi-modality I enjoy it more.

Making  the post on blackboard wouldn’t be as pleasant and original as making tumblr posts the gifs and the way tumblr has more accessibility to different stuff than what we are used in other classes makes it authentic, I really enjoyed making the tumblr posts. What I liked the most about tumblr is that I could be myself, the post weren’t so professional or demanding, I enjoy the process of making the post more than an other classes where you have to just write in a piece of paper. I also like that I learned to see things from others perspectives when reading my classmates posts which help me understand the readings better. 

As I mentioned before my tumblr experience was extremely pleasant for that reason I wouldn’t change anything about it. In all of the post I put my own personality and they were all related to what I like.

This week’s reading Developing Multimodal Academic Literacies among College Freshmen by Gloria E. Jacobs, the main idea of this reading ishow the use of multimodal text as an integral part of instruction can support student learning. Throughout the article the author prove that the use of multimodal texts helps students by allowing them to demonstrate their topic rather then simply describing, it also mentions that the use of video made it more playful and enjoyable for the students. In addition, the author describes the process she used to instruct and better prepare her students.

This week’s reading connects to my career because it is true that multimodal text helps demonstrate examples and engage the audience in order to gain a better understanding  It gave me a more robust understanding of the AVA project because it helped me understand that putting our personality and making the project unique will make it more enjoyable for us and even easier to convey our message to the audience.

This reading prompt me to ask if it effective to use this idea in other courses and not just literature?

The main ideas of Writing in Transcript chapter 10 are the formats and modalities of arguments. Throughout, the chapter the author goes over the written modalities of arguments, he also describe visual arguments, the author also explained the forms of visual arguments in different disciplines. In addition he describe what verbal arguments are. This chapter connects to my career because as explained in the chapter visual arguments sometimes is a combination of visual and verbal explanations, combining images and text to support and prove your argument. When explaining something a doctor sometimes shows images of the body, digestive system, bones, a many more things and combine it with text in order to explain something. This chapter gave me a more robust understanding of the structure of arguments and how different types can be combine to back up your argument. This chapter will help with the AVA project because it explains how academic posters are done and also presented. In addition, it will help me with the structure, it gave me a better understanding. This chapter prompt me to question the balance between images and text in our AVA project. I choose this gif because when explaining your argument you got to do more than just wanting to prove others wrong, you need the opinions of experts and do research to prove your point.

 The main ideas of chapters 8 & 9 in Writing in Transit are framing an argument and constructing an argument. Throughout this chapters the author describe  what an arguments is and its purposes, the author also mentioned what an effective argument consist of, the structure of an argument and the different types of arguments.

The readings from this week connect to my AVA topic because as it is mentioned in chapter 8 an argument is about pursuing. In regards to my topic there is an argument on which some people believe that autism is harmful for autistic children, however with appropriate research and evidence I can convince them that physical activity is actually extremely beneficial to autistic children.

The reading help me gain a more robust understanding of my career because when a patient refuses to attend their therapies, I must pursue them to attend the, because it is my job and it is also important for their recovery. When trying to pursue a patient I must understand their side and opinion in order to prove to them why it is better to attend their therapies.

The reading help me understand the AVA  better because now I know that arguments are not only about winning but rather about pursuing. In addition, I learned that arguments aren’t based on opinions but on actual research and evidence, understanding this will help me to not take a bias stand in regards to my topic.

My top two project preferences are film doc.and the research poster. For this project my topic will be the social impact of children with autism, this is consider a problem because the number of autistic children has been increasing over the past years and many of these children have trouble communicating but many of the parents and legal guardians of these children are not well informed of the treatments since this disease is extremely complex. However there is  therapy, exercises and treatment that can help improve autistic children with their social skills. The purpose of this AVA project is to inform the parents and legal guardians of autistic children that there is a lot of different ways to help their child. The audience would be any parent or legal guardian of an autistic children. The solution to this problem would be creating websites and campaigns that would show and provide information of treatments, exercises and therapy that could help improve the social skills of autistic children.

The main idea of chapter 11 is evidence.According to this chapter from Writing in Transcript, evidence is the material academic writers draw from to advance their arguments. In this chapter the author provides information such as the purpose for integrating evidence, questions that shape interrogation of evidence, how to effectively integrate evidence and various examples of integrating reading.

The content from the chapter connects to my career because in the medical field there is always research to do about diseases or any new medications or treatments, doctors use research from articles, they do their own research, or even use the research from other doctors to study certain treatments for specific diseases. By sharing this information one must provide evidence to back up an argument. The reading help me to get a more robust understanding on how doctors come up with information and treatments for their patients. This chapter is going to help me a lot with the lit review because I would have to provide evidence in order to advance my argument. The reading from this chapter prompt me to ask, how to identify the credibility of the evidence provide in my sources?

The main idea of this week readings were summary and synthesis. A summary is a shorter version of a longer work, a comprehensive  and usually brief abstract. As mentioned in chapter 5 summaries may vary depending in the individual who is writing it because everybody has a different comprehension. In this chapter the author corrects some myths about summaries for example, that a summary is objective, easy to write and that summaries aren’t use at college. This three examples are erroneous myths about summaries. In this chapter the author also mention the essential parts of a summary, the components of an effective summary and the different occasions on which a summary is useful. Furthermore, in chapter 6 the author talks about synthesis. Synthesis is the putting together of parts or elements so as to make a complex whole. In this chapter the author presented the purpose of synthesis, how to present questions in order to shape synthesis, the criteria of an effective synthesis and examples of synthesis in various disciplines. Synthesis has various purposes that depend on disciplines and if is used for an individual project or as a part of a larger project. Some examples of the purposes are, making connections between ideas, to apply ideas into other contexts, to show disagreement between ideas, combine concepts, produce something new and to demonstrate a gap in knowledge. In addition, an effective synthesis depends on the purpose of the writer. To elaborate questions for synthesis one must put close attention to their discipline and purpose.

This chapters are connected to my career physical therapist because when analyzing a patient’s result one must explain to a patient their condition and the steps they need to follow in other to recover their physical mobility. When explaining one must make it clear and short to give a good explanation to the patient and only emphasize important details which must always be related to our discipline health sciences. The readings for this week help me getter a better understanding on the differences and the specific parts of summary and synthesis. This readings will help me for the lit review because when trying to explain my sources and my overall purpose and topic; I must make a precise summary. Synthesis would help me because I understand that I must ask specific questions that would help me in the explanation of my purpose and my topic. The readings promt me to ask the importance of fully understanding and developing a topic before we go on to research and present our ideas and opinions.

My reading process consist of checking various things before I start reading. For example, the topic, my personal purpose to reading the content and the amount of reading require. I f the amount is too much for me to read all at once, I divided into parts. I read everything twice because I usually don’t understand the everything the first time I read and the second time I read it slower and make notes to get a better understanding. When making notes I usually look for the main points, words that I don’t understand, the purpose of the reading and the key points. I also analyze the order for example I check if its in chronological order, or if its divide into different topics, if its comparing something or if it connects various topics.

Even though, I find my reading process effective, I got to admit that sometimes I encounter some obstacles. The most common obstacle that I encounter is that when I divide my reading into parts, I usually read fragments of the reading everyday and sometimes I forget to read one day and it messes up my reading process.

I rhetorically read content for RWS 1302 when using the shallow and In-depth strategies. As I mentioned before the first time that I read something, I read fast which is one of the characteristics of the shallow reading strategy. The second time I read the same content, I put closer attention to details and do what they call active reading. Some of the points mentioned on chapter 4 that I connect to from In-depth reading are, analyzing, making marginal notes, remembering more carefully what I am reading, looking for unfamiliar words, connections and key terms.

The content from chapter 4 and the video help me decide what sources I’m going to be using for the lit review and what things to look for when deciding what sources to use. The book help me get a better understanding of primary, secondary and tertiary sources and it also gave me ideas to add into my reading process. The video help me understand what a good source consist of with the definition of the acronym “CRAAP” which means Currency, Revelance, Authority, Accurate and Purpose.  

The main topic of this week’s reading “Posing Meaningful Questions” is the importance of meaningful questions. In this chapter the writer explains what a good question consist of and what should be included in the question in order for it to be effective. It also emphasizes that good questions are need it in order to formulate good research.

In the medical field there is constant research about cures, medicines and the prevention of diseases. For example a Physical Therapist might have questions about body movement and anything that contributes to recovering it. The questions that Physical Therapist usually ask are extremely specific to their discipline. Another example could be questioning how to strengthen the human body in order to prevent fractures or any other harm that can affect our body. 

The reading help me gain a better understanding on why doctors often ask many questions  to patients, this is because coming up with a diagnose is like doing research because you need to gather as much information as possible in order to come up with the best possible answer and solution. 

Furthermore, this reading also help me understand the major assignment better because, I learned that formulating good questions is an essential part of reviewing and researching.

The reading prompt me to ask if one question can be utilize by various disciplines and how would the question would differ in each of the disciplines?

Literature Review Proposal:

My topic proposal is the effects of exercising on mentally disabled individuals in the United States. I often ask myself if exercising would be beneficial or harmful for people who suffer from this conditions. This topic allows me to be unbiased because people can argue that it is beneficial while others can say its harmful. I could gather my information from experts on the topic an also from testimonios of people who suffer this condition.

The main idea of “Writing in transit” chapter 7 was the purpose of analysis and it also explain major details of what analysis consist of and questions to shape an analysis. As mentioned in the book Analysis involves examining data closely, breaking down larger concepts, text, images, events, and artifacts into smaller pieces.

Analyzing connects to my career physical therapist because we need to evaluate the conditions of our patients and and also examine their medical history in order to come up with a diagnose.

The reading help me gain a better understanding of analyzing when it comes to my career because in order to come up with a diagnose you need to do deep examination to explain any data to the patients, it also help me to understand that a good analysis would help to make better decisions based on the data I get from analyzing.

The reading prompt me to ask how to conduct multiple modes of analysis. 

The reading help with the genre analysis because it explains what to look for and what techniques to use when analyzing something, and it also help me understand the importance of analysis.
