There’s a turtle in my yard laying eggs
This bitch really gonna dump her kids on me and vamoose
I’m not ready to be a single mom
I know shit about reptiles
I had to put a stick next to the nest because she decided the MIDDLE of our yard was the primo spot to give birth
Mowing is gonna be interesting this summer
Meet the mother leaving her wildlife progeny under my city girl care
I’m googling turtles right now. I sent photos to my southern stepmom for help. Apparently she’s a box turtle?
70 DAYS UNTIL THEY HATCH??
You a mom now
Text from stepmom “watch out for foxes, cranes, raccoons, and snakes. They’ll eat the eggs so chase them off”
I’m gonna fistfight nature
@mrswinterbarnes you’re not wrong. When I came back from closing the barn doors she was gone. Nowhere in sight. I thought turtles were supposed to be slow
I was gone maybe ten minutes so first off, not even a goodbye??
I don’t think Box turtles return to their nest either, so until they hatch and dig out
YOU GONNA BE A MOMMA
DAMN IT SHARRON
First that bird makes its nursery in my bike basket on our porch and now this
Why am I becoming a wildlife nanny??
UPDATE
SHES BACK
NEVERMIND
ITS A DIFFERENT TURTLE
That’s two deadbeat turtle moms dropping their spawn on me
Call this one Susan
You’re like a really ticked-off nature witch who never signed up for this animal empath shit
rosie
Me on Fourth of July like

Nobody said anything about race. Stop that.
It’s nationalist to state facts now?

what exactly makes america the “best country” here? america doesn’t excel in anything.
I was gonna say aren’t we like #1 in a bunch of bad stats? Like aren’t we the top for rape and abuse?

Montessori made easy in the kitchen
The kitchen is an area where it’s easy to get carried away. Quite frankly, I remain baffled by the amount of time (and money) that some parents spend creating an entire kitchen area for their children. While lovely, it’s absolutely unnecessary. You do not need an entire Montessori kitchen area for your child. A stool and some child-size tools will suffice. See below for how we incorporate the Montessori philosophy, encouraging independence and order in our small kitchen space.
One piece of furniture I often recommend to aspiring Montessori families is The Learning Tower by Little Partners. I’ve been disappointed in some of their other products, but this tower has stood the test of time. Learning towers are definitely an investment, but I bet if you added up the cost of all the toys you buy that your children might care less about, the total would surpass the cost of the tower. Ideally, this tower would take up less room, and we debated selling it. Since my daughter really loves it and frequently uses the easel attachment, we decided to keep it. My daughter is able to climb in and out of the tower and choose the items she needs from the top of the butcher block counter below. She also uses the tower to help with meal preparation and dish washing.
This counter serves as an arts and crafts area for the messy works we don’t want to do in the family room. It also serves as our baking and cooking prep area. We keep a roll of paper here for painting activities. We also keep a couple trays for practical life activities related to baking or cooking, as well as a placemat, small glass and pitcher with water. In the lower cabinet, there is a basin for floor scrubbing, and the smaller child-size utensils are stored in one of the drawers.
The bottom of our pantry houses a couple shelves with art caddies and a cleaning caddy, which my daughter uses to clean her indoor and outdoor easels among other things. My family’s real food diet means we don’t usually buy in bulk so taking a couple shelves in our already tiny pantry is okay. We also (purposefully) live within walking distance to a decent-sized grocery store. The small stool under the window helps her to reach her snack items in the pantry. Next to the pantry, we hang the tools my daughter uses to care for the environment, including an apron for cooking and baking. You can find wonderful child-size tools from For Small Hands.
In summary, it’s easy to get carried away making your kitchen as Montessori as Pinterest deems possible, but it’s completely unnecessary. By observing your child and making small changes to facilitate independence, you and your child can enjoy more quality time together both in and out of the kitchen.
