MJ was a rags to riches story. She was a theater actress that is engaged to the wealthy Paul. Paul is controlling and abusive; he tells her that her only existence is to be a trophy on his arm and to have his kids. When she boards the Titanic, MJ has already given up on her dreams and is just going through the motions of life.
Peter would be some type of photographer that pays little but allows him to travel; he really wants to be a scientist like his late father. His father was a well-known scientist and it was his father’s lab that had the spider that gave him powers. His father and mother died when Peter was a small child, and he had no one but his loving and penniless aunt and uncle to take care of him. He is told all his life that he has to hide his powers or else he might be taken away to be studied as a lab rat. Peter ends up using them again after his Uncle is killed.
Peter would definitely save MJ from jumping off the ship. Peter’s a gentleman, kind, funny and everything she didn’t think a man could be. Peter tells her about his secret and instead of being freaked out she’s fascinated.
And of course there’s this scene….
At first Paul likes him because he doesn’t see him as a threat, but what really sets things in motion is when Peter punches him for abusing MJ and gets thrown in jail.
The ship starts sinking and MJ has to save him from drowning in the ships’ jail. Peter in turn tries to save as many third class people as he can but is forced to eventually stop because MJ won’t leave his side and he doesn’t want her to drown. He tries to convince her to get on a life boat but she just jumps back into the ship before it descends.
Paul tries to kill them and Peter and MJ fight him off together and he ends up getting on a lifeboat. Peter begs her once more to get on a life boat but she tells him that she is with him until the end.
In the water, Peter puts her on that wooden piece of furniture and tries to get on too, but it starts to sink so he selflessly gets off so she won’t freeze to death. He tells her that he loves her so much and wants to marry her. She agrees and holds his hands until he closes his eyes.
When that life boat comes MJ is the only one that appears to be alive. She starts shaking Peter but he won’t wake up. Just before she’s about to give up, she says as loud as she can in her raspy, freezing voice, “Come on Parker, you made me a promise! Dont you care about your responsibility to me?”
Peter opens his eyes a crack. They pull him and her into the life boat. She hugs him under the blankets and whispers how much she loves him.
They make a full recovery and the first thing they do is get married.
I will definitely try to write a short AU piece. Thank you so much, Anon! I’m shocked I didn’t realize until now how well PeterMJ fit for Titanic.
