a part of me doesn't want mj to remember. instead, i want her to fall in love with peter all over again
Even if the MCU had cast a white, redheaded actress, or had simply introduced Zendaya as "Mary Jane Watson" in Homecoming, I don't think much would have changed.
Ask yourself this: if another actress had been cast as MCU MJ, would Homecoming suddenly have written her like the comics? Would Far From Home or No Way Home have fundamentally changed? Probably not. Those movies would have followed the same story beats because the characterization comes from the script, not the actress.
That's why I don't understand why so many people act like Zendaya is the reason MCU MJ isn't comic accurate. She doesn't write the character. She doesn't decide her personality, backstory, or role in the story.
I, like many fans, would have preferred a version that's much closer to Earth 616 Mary Jane Watson. But pretending the issue is that Zendaya is Black instead of acknowledging that the adaptation itself was written differently completely misses the point. The criticism should be aimed at the creative decisions, not the actress.

MJ helps Spider-Man catch a villain without his knowledge
Mary Jane: Face It, Tiger #1
i miss her this is how im coping with the exam thats coming up that i feel unprepared for drawing MJ is very necessary to defeat stress
SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY (2026) dir. Destin Daniel Cretton
My Thoughts on MCU!MJ
i have a theory surrounding MCU!MJ. most likely isnāt true, genuinely just wrote this down because i thought it was interesting to think about. most likely someone else probably already thought of this but iām barely on here, and no oneās gonna read this or care anyway so why not.
before i continue, trigger warning: mentions of verbal and emotional abuse.
spoiler warning as well for MCU spider-man, obviously.
You should write the scripts! I refuse to acknowledge the name change.
Again Spider-man brand new day spoilers but what do you mean people are pissed at MJ for saying she doesn't love Peter yeah no shit she doesn't know that man sorry thats what happens when you specifically cast a spell to erase someone's memory of you then do nothing to reintroduce yourself to them for several years hello consequences of Peter's choices

me bitching hard today only to see a clip from that doctumentary sony made about the spidey movies call zmj mary jane watson
Honestly, the name change is stupid which is why they are finally admitting sheās Mary Jane. Jon Wattās poor writing made her character feel temporary until No Way Home.
The name was a blatant show of disrespect to the character and was a way to appease racists by trying to separate her from the comics. Iāll fight anyone that still says m*chelle J*nes because itās obvious the films are now correcting that by only calling her MJ.
I donāt agree that the movie is mj has completely changed in 4 year. She has a lot of the same mannerisms and character traits. The only difference is that she has matured.
I think after she says āI donāt love youā, I think she is just giving herself some time to breathe. She is still very wise and observant , but now her maturity is telling her to be pragmatic. And I donāt think itās the end. Instead itās paving the way for a fresh start.
And when she reads the letter instead of holding it all in, and pretending that she doesnāt care, she expresses her feelings to Peter and is completely honest with him, something that she has been unable to do with her current boyfriend. And she notices when Peter doesnāt get mad or resentful. He still helps her get home, so she helps him, by encouraging him to talk to Ned. Even though he screwed up, I think she can tell that he is hurting.
So instead of things coming to an end, I think she is leaving the door open, because she sees that Peter is inherently a good person. Because life is complicated and sometimes people make mistakes, but that doesnāt mean you should punish them for it.
I totally agree and itās crazy some people donāt understand the importance of choice . Itās unrealistic for a woman to jump into the arms of a āstrangerā (which he is without her memories). She reacts rationally and honestly to the discovery that her memories were erased, and even calls him out for not telling her sooner. Peter feels familiar to her but thatās as far is it goes. The time jump also helped establish her as a young adult that is building her own path in life. Itās super refreshing seeing her with her own agency outside of Peter.
I do believe Jeanās powers gave her back her memoirs, which is why she is crying. All it took was the handshake to make Ned remember after Jeans powers affected him.
People may wonder why MJ didnāt rush back into his arms but it all comes back her needing to fall in love with the man instead of the boy she once knew, which I think is beautiful and doesnāt take away her decision.
The people complaining arenāt used to good writing and character development. The core of who we are is establishing as a teenager but itās not until adulthood that we make real discoveries about ourselves. We are always changing and so should characters as they age.
Emma is really a Spider-Man book called MJ loves Spider-Man! Iām really excited about this and have always bought Emmaās books after reading her amazing Spider-Man fanfiction called Perpendicular.
Make sure you support and pre order the book! Itās available June 2027!!
WHAT!? Perpendicular is the best PeterMJ fan fiction!!! Iām so excited for this author!!!
