An A.U where the finale is a time loop where, as soon as Butcher buries that crowbar in Homelander's head, they get sent right back to the moment after Homelander loses his powers. Butcher is having the time of his life, able to extend his bloody vengeance infinitely and continue to distract himself from the fact that he doesn't feel even slightly fulfilled by all of it coming to an end. Homelander is scrambling to find a way to convince Butcher to spare his life, but nothing is working
How does that loop end? No idea. But I think it's an interesting idea
I have spend too much time working on this in my head.
It will take a couple of rounds for both of them to realise what is happening. Butcher just acceptes his happy fate and kills Homelander quicker and gorier. Getting ever more unhinged.
Then Homelander will start a new tactic each round. Stupid things like offering wealth, safety, sex. Threats. Stalling for time in hope that somebody will come. Insincerely apologising about Becca. Just straight up running from the room. Turning to Ryan. Turning to Kimiko. Turning to Ryan again, this time earnestly.
Nothing works. It gets to a point where Homelander doesn't get up after loosing his powers. The memories of so many deaths flooding his system with stress and anxiety. Let him have a proper panic attack before Butcher even touches him.
That's the point where it starts to get old for Butcher. Maybe for his next kill, he will take some time. Get Homelander (or John I guess) someplace quiet. Somewhere more private....
I would 100% read that version. I love the angst of it (what a surprise, considering my username). And the possibilities are endless really…
