mind control at a breaking point. this wasn't the first or last time emma would use her powers to get people to leave her alone. she enjoyed her partners time, of course much needed peace and quiet in their living room. powers work to provide a bit of protection to nullify any responsibilities from tampering with this alone time. she had the kind of stress that brought on physical illness, pain, and the spinning of a room to which emma needed to get under control before her mind triggers a catastrophic event. big lore drop - the events related to her involuntary ‘treatment’ at the essex clinic and the emotions that shaped her forever. youth going to this clinic had no idea it was an underground and secretive operation funded by the govt, yet parents and hired badges still kept it thriving. located in NY it claims it operates as an obgyn practice, despite testing upon mutants to obtain worthy DNA in efforts to create the ultimate superhumans. emma was left here as a teen approaching adulthood. primary suspect, nathaniel essex operated as the mastermind geneticist with others.
the initial ‘drop off’ was prompted by her father without objection from her mother. winston’s telepathy masked who dropped her off, mimicking the appearance of a lost flame. someone emma trusted and developed fond feelings for, falsified via her father to make her more cooperative in being ‘admitted.’ it’s ‘ i saw it coming and i still cried’ type of memory. she was horrified, trembling but still agreed because maybe it will help her in the long run. sobbing. making sure this false representation of a unrequited love promised to come pick her up after care is complete - and never did. the vision of emma looking back at the face of him, while knowing deep down she was walking into something terrible. ( more below, hidden for possible triggers. )
she has prior suspicions this place wasn’t what everyone made it to be. heavily guarded with military and medical staff on command. a electroshock collar was her first sign of real fear. a tactic used on the raft to disarm superhumans. electric turned off her telepathy. rendering her unable to disobey, cooperating without a chance of being combative. there were others like her, other mutations being tested on with mixing genetics. emma was a prime candidate because sinister saw her premature secondary mutation - immortality with diamonds. her beauty was sought after, as well.
the tests nearly killed her a few times. such as logan and a few others have before her. electroshock therapy and testing the limits. replicating her psyche and triggering a long affect of amnesia. testing the strength of the diamond barrier with blunt objects. collecting too much of her blood to admire and test the residual diamond dust. mutants dropped off here typically never come out alive without some sort of help outside. because her DNA was successfully replicated in high volume, there are clones and biological children that she is unaware of. extending to a shared genetic imprint with that of magneto.
the brotherhood saved emma from death. (the only near death i acknowledge) her family wanted her dead (aside from her brother christian) and sinister would of had his way with her (even more so) if it weren’t for her rescue. she will always support erik and stand by his side because he saved her, despite sharing the same treatment. my emma may fall in love easy but it takes a lot to trust.
imagine coming out of that sort of life altering trauma. it’s a forever thing that she’s always healing from. so yes, she has poor coping strats but it works for her and she hasn’t destroyed 616 - yet. in this house we are anti-essex, and she will forever work on justice for herself.
