When Tony found out that he was wearing a binder under his suit, he freaked out and told Peter that just because you have superpowers doesn’t mean you can suffocate yourself all day.  Peter refused to stop Spider-Manning in his binder, and Tony finally said “okay, what about surgery then?”  Peter hadn’t even thought of that as a possibility because of lack of money and being a minor, but Tony insisted that it was an investment in the protection of the city and found a surgeon who would work with permission from a guardian plus letters from psychiatrists.

When Peter was almost 15, Tony talked the surgeon into working with Bruce to find ways to operate successfully on someone with super-healing and talked the surgeon into operating with Peter’s mask on.  (Convincing him to accept guardian’s permission and letters without Peter’s name on them was actually the hard part; the surgeon was very excited to work on someone with superpowers.)

For Peter, the worst part was the period he wasn’t able to go out as Spider-Man.  They had to temporarily slow down his super-healing in order to operate, so for the first two weeks he healed only a bit faster than a standard human, and his arms wouldn’t move properly and his chest hurt and there was no way Tony was letting him go swing around the city and tear open his stitches, especially when his healing factor was offline.

When Peter was 15, his super-healing had fully taken care of his incisions, like they were never there, and he only had the occasional twinge - apparently healing factors don’t entirely eliminate the effects of nerve damage.

When Peter was 15, he went swimming for the first time since he was 7.

After The Show

The farmer stood at the front of the venue. The heavy beat of the drum thundered in her body as The Pelicans played their setlist. Sam grinned at her in the audience, happy to see his friend support him and his band. The farmer was glad to be there for him, but if she was honest with herself, she was there to see Abigail. She'd caught the farmer's eye the day she moved to Pelican Town and she's been looking for excuses to see her. Coming to the concert was her ace in the hole; she was going to catch Abigail after the show. 

Abigail had straightened her hair and lined her eyes in metallic purple makeup. She looked bewitching, especially as she bopped her head to the rhythm of her drumming. 

When their setlist was over, the farmer cheered along with the crowd. Sam basked in the applause. Sebastian stood behind his keyboard, seemingly uncomfortable with the attention. Abigail scanned the crowd, looking pleased with herself. Her eyes locked with the farmer's and she winked. She felt her cheeks get hot. 

The farmer met the band backstage. Sam ran up to greet her first. 

"That was AWESOME, can you believe it?!" He shouted, shaking the farmer's shoulders in excitement. She praised his performance and congratulated him, but her eyes were trained on Abigail, who was chatting with Sebastian. 

After a few minutes Sam broke away to get some water. Sebastian had followed him, leaving Abigail standing by herself. The farmer's nerves races, but she swallowed her fear and approached the other girl. 

"You sounded awesome" she said, more meekly than she meant to. 

Abigail smiled, brushing her still-straight hair behind her ears. 

"Thank you. I'm glad you made it" 

The farmer nodded. 

"Of course, I'll always support my frien-" 

"I mean," Abigail interrupted, "I'm really glad that you made it". 

She said it so smoothly that the farmer thought she would melt into a puddle right there. 

"Oh, uh.. thank you" she replied weakly. 

The farmer's back was against a brick wall. Abigail put her hand against the wall and leaned in closer to the farmer, sending electric shivers through her whole body. 

"You know, I think we should hang out sometime" Abigail said. The farmer gulped, enchanted by Abigail's sudden bravado.
