DR Jaya and Skybound Jaya:
Been thinking about this for monthsâŚletâs see if I can put it into words correctly.
In season six, it was often brought up that Nya wanted to choose her own path without feeling she was being forced into a role or for her identity to be connected to someone else.
Throughout Skybound, Jay did not respect Nya wishes (âŚ) at all and wasnât listening to what she was saying. UntilâŚ
First time in the season he stopped and listened. AND HE ASKED âwell then, what do you want to be?â It really was the tipping point of their relationship.
And a little later when Jay was willing to sacrifice himself for Nya. I think it really hit Nya in that moment how much he cared about her. Literally giving everything up for her, it wasnât all about what he wanted.
(Definitely one of my favorite Jaya scenes)
Fast forward to DRâŚ
Other people have talked about this and more people will, including me. THROUGHOUT part 2 of season 3, the ninja kept pushing Jay to accept his role as a ninja. The guy that has no memories of them and said that he doesnât trust anyone. Which I donât blame him, he was taken advantage of and lied to twice already. And the last two times, he was discarded once he failed to fit the narrative they wanted and it happened again in episode 17.
Pro tip dismissing and degrading someone is not the best way to get someone to trust you. AND asking why he changed KNOWING full well to why⌠Honestly if someone went after him when he left the tournament, things would be different. When he had nothing to offer you but going after him because you care about him.
ANYWAYS back on track.
The irony/ parallel that it Nya who is constantly saying âthatâs not the ninja wayâ âcause you used to be a ninjaâ. When years ago it was her who people kept telling her what to be. Each time she said that, especially after this scene onwards âŚ
His mood changed each time and became more closed off until it all came ahead here
This is the PERFECT set up for Nya to do what Jay did for her in the lighthouse all those years ago. To listen and accept whatever he wants to do or donât want, instead of telling him what he should be. To be the one to reach out her hand to him this time.
I love when Jay came back in episode 20, love it. Watched it so many times but if the writers donât conclude this arc with something similar to Skybound (without the dying). 1. A huge waste if they donât and 2. To me, I wonât be satisfied honestly.
Also Iâm not villainizing anyone or saying Jay didnât do anything wrong throughout this part 2.
Anyways thatâs all for now
I also noticed some similarities between Rogue and Samurai X cuz Nya wanted to remain as Samurai X because it was an identity she chose for herself, not a label like âKaiâs sisterâ or âthe water ninjaâ that was forced upon her
Jay clings to his identity as Rogue because itâs the first time he could remember choosing his own at. After the merge he was told he worked at the administration, then he was told he was a warrior, then he was told he was a ninja. Heâs been given like 3 different identities and just wants to choose his own path, just like Nya with Samurai X
