REBLOG IF NAZIS OFFEND YOU MORE THAN NIPPLES.
hot take: āchivalryā is fine as long as itās adapted to 21st century values. if you are a male, you SHOULD be aware that your female friends face certain issues that you as a male dont. acting on that awareness in a way that keeps your female friends safe, isnāt a bad thing.
like⦠opening doors isnāt rly chivalrous when itās just a thing you ought to do for everyone. but real 21st century chivalry might be, like, standing between your female friend and the guy thatās trying to get her drunk, or offering to walk her home when itās late.
if the āchivalryā inconveniences everyone involved and youāre just doing it for your over-inflated male ego ā ie, āno youāre the girl here, you HAVE to let me hold this door for you and do all these things for you even when you can do it yourself and im just slowing you downā ā then itās just outdated misogyny.
I wonder if it crossed anyoneās minds that women used to wear giant gowns that were hard to move around in so assisting them through doorways was in fact a kind act since it means that you were taking their needs into consideration WITHOUT THEM REMINDING YOU rather then the notion of showingĀ āaw yeah man arenāt I NOBLEā to a bunch of people who probably have higher standing then you anyway. A lot of old school etiquette is class warfare anyway so if you think youāre doing something because it makes you look more cultured/civilized rather then because itās nice to the people around you, youāre probably a dick.

Ami/Minako shipping fuel: pissing contest over the size of their gaming rigs
i just read a washington post article on romcoms aging poorly due to the pushiness (and oft-stalkery conduct) of the male characters therein, and it got me thinking about pride and prejudice, and specifically darcy saying, āone word from you will silence me on this subject forever.ā
because, like, thatās the seldom-portrayed romantic dream in the patriarchal hellscape that is our world, isnāt it?
a dude being willing to say, āi understand if you donāt feel the same way about me, and iāll leave you alone forever about this if my attention is unwanted.ā
so simple, yet so wonderful in its basic human decency
and dudes to this day wonder why women still swoon over darcy
Note also: Elizabeth turns down Darcyās first proposal, and in the process, accuses him of doing some stuff he did not do (and also some stuff he totally did).
The next day, he surprises her on her walk. He hands her a letter, asks that she read it, and then takes off.
When this happened to me after I had turned someone down IN REAL LIFE, the letter contained a passionate argument to the tune ofĀ āactually youāre wrong and you do like me and you should go out with meā and it was creepy af.
Darcyās letter to Elizabeth starts with: āBe not alarmed, Madam, on receiving this letter,Ā by the apprehension of its containing any repetition of those sentiments, or renewal of those offers, which were last night so disgusting to youā. He goes on to set the record straight about the stuff he didnāt do (as well as the stuff he did) which is *actually relevant* to Elizabeth. And he, as promised, doesnāt romance her further.
Itās totally bizarre that even now, this can be considered unusually great dude behaviour.
Darcyās first proposal:Ā āYou must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.ā
Darcyās second proposal:Ā āOne word from you will silence me on this subject forever.ā
His whole arc in the book is about learning to consider other peopleās feelings and not just his own, but the fact that itās expressed via who gets to talk and who is told to shut up is so, so telling. The first time around, he imposes his voice on her whether she wants it or not. The second time, he asks how sheĀ feels, and in exchange, offers her the gift of his silence.
And yeah, the fact that dudes still! have! not! learned! this! lesson! is exhausting.
How surprising is it that Pride and Prejudice was written by a woman, when many romantic comedies are produced and directed by men?
Answer: not at all
200 years later and the world is still full of guys who think theyāre a Mr Darcy when theyāre actually a Mr Collins.
200 years later and the world is still full of guys who think theyāre a Mr Darcy when theyāre actually a Ross Geller.
It should also be noted that many men do not respect the writings of Jane Austin and find her over rated. RED FLAGS RIGHT THERE. If they donāt get why Darcy is an ideal, then they are never going to better themselves.
The Original Meeting for The Prince and Snow White, from the original 1937 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs comic strip, released weekly, beginning December 14, a week before the filmās premiere.
Look, everyone! He has a name.
Well it about time that we know what his fucking name was.

THE COCOAPUFF GIRLS
So about this project. For awhile now Iāve noticed almost every single time I see a darker skinned black woman āgoing viralā, sheās half naked, oiled up, and/or sexualized in some way shape or form. Itās very rarely ever āLook at this amazing dark skinned woman who accomplished this thing.ā Or āLook at her smile, sheās gorgeousā. Ā Please donāt misinterpret what Iām saying. There is nothing wrong with darker women and black women in general being free and expressive about their sexuality and provocative features. BUT that is NOT ALL they are. They are so much more than sexual beings, but for some reason, that seems to be almost the only thing that grabs viral appreciation. So hereās my attempt to have darker skinned black women go viral for just being cute, creative, stylish, bubbly, beautiful, and black. Aside from the videographer EVERYONE involved in this project IS A BLACK WOMAN. I hope you guys like it. I ask that if you enjoyed this and agree with my objective, share it with a few people please.
A special thank you to @aggienes, I couldnāt have done this without her.

okay, most of what i do re: harry potter is criticism, and hp is flawed in such a number of ways, but sometimes i just sit here and
i mean, you all have a comprehension of just how drastically harry potter changed literature, yeah? like. it revitalized it. it blew the literary scene apart. the new york times had to create a separate bestsellerās list for childrenās litĀ just because harry potter existed. harry potterĀ changed reading.
so many people on tumblr were born in the ā90s. when the first book came out, most of us couldnāt read. but we grew up in a world whereĀ everyone, everyone, everyone was reading harry potter, no matter how old they were; we grew up in a world where the most popular story in theĀ entire world was a fantasy childrenās book.
itās sort of difficult to grasp, sometimes, the extent to which harry potter is not just a book. the extent to which what is basically a series of fun, interesting, and fairly good novels is such an enormous, enormous part of our lives, a cultural touchstone, a truly universal reference point, something so many people have shaped their lives around,Ā a foundation for all of the stories we would read and watch for the rest of our livesā for so many of us, the first books we ever loved
the extent to which so many of us canāt call ourselves āfansā of harry potter, because it would like being a āfanā of, like, having lungs.
itās not evenĀ about liking it or disliking it. itās just a part of us.
This reminds me an awful lot about Starbucks.
No, seriously. Before Starbucks, America was a coffee wasteland. Coffee was a thing you got at diners and drivethroughs. It was a cheap hot thing you put made palatable with tons of cream and sugar, and most people (but waning!) had a coffee machine at home.
Starbucks told us that we could like coffee. That coffee could be an enjoyable thing, that it could be a status symbol and a ritual. That there could be a place where you go for coffee, and you enjoy it.
As a coffee snob, I think Starbucksā coffee is awful. But Starbucks is why we have better coffee. Starbucks created the market space for third wave coffee shops and artisanal roasters. They reintroduced āespressoā, ālatteā and ācappuccinoā to the American lexicon.
We need stuff thatās heinously popular. Thatās how culture works.
In the early 1900s, people loved collecting their familyās and friendsā signatures in autograph books. This evolved into collecting ghost signatures, which were made by signing a piece of paper with slow-drying ink and then quickly folding the sheet over to create a personalized inkblot. Source

THESE ARE WICKED COOL.
these are PERFECT for personalized sigils omg???
i like how some people added little faces
WHY DID PEOPLE STOP DOING THIS???
... Now Iām going to do this using the mirror tool in MS5.
