Pirates And Other Historical Paraphernalia

As far as I can tell this is of King Louis I of Spain, so it makes sense why he looks like he's wearing a metal chestplate, because armor was not worn at all in battle in the 1720s. I've seen it a lot in paintings of upper class men, thought. He also has a lot of gold embroidery on his coat, which throughout the 18th century was a signifier of class. Fun fact, people even had thread picking kits where they would pick out all the hand-woven embroidery because it showed they had the money to purchase new clothes if they ruined them.

Jane is wearing a jumper dress, which were all the rage in the edwardian era. I could have drawn her in a maid outfit, but that didn't seem right since she is one for so little of the book. I thought the maid outfits of the edwardian era looked a little like jumper dresses so I put her in one. I wasn't super sure what to do with her hair, and tbh I'm not sure if I liked what I ended up with. She's described as having short hair, but most of edwardian hairstyles required long hair but looked short because it's all pinned up. So I just gave her short hair and went with it.

Second outfit on the left is not based in historical reality of the 1720s. It's supposed to be a little more sporty, since the extent of "sportwear" you get for women at the time were riding habits. She's wearing stays over a chemise tucked into men's breeches, and a pair of buckles shows that were populat in the 1720s. On the right, the drawing on the left (like that's not confusing. anyways) is my take on a pirate/sailor outfit from the time. I haven't been able to find any drawings of sailor outfits from the 1720s specifically, but there are plenty from later in the decade. Most usually show a white shirt with some kind of short coat, and either breeches or petticoat breeches. This outfit's a more formal version of that with a long waistcoat over the top. Outfit on the left of the right image is pretty similar in concept.
