I'm so used to Godzilla being a vehicle for talking about how horrific the bombs were, but did not expect the film to also address the way the government used these young men as intentional cannon fodder, not just in the "well soldiers die in war" way but by weaponizing the idea of a noble suicide.

And maybe in actuality the difference between a military that tells young men that it's noble to die fighting isn't that different than the military that tells young men that it is cowardice to survive, shameful to want to live. But something about the look on the characters faces whe they realize Koichi is a 'failed' Kamikaze....
