Also, is this just an optics complaint? Lobster tails are food, these ones certainly donât seem to be a luxury (any more than something like cookie dough or honey or tea).
If you think SNAP/EBT is something valid, why shouldnât people be able to use it to buy (overall) healthy and accepted food? Do you think it should only be used to buy gruel and canned sardines?
Is there some objective threshold or should SNAP EBT have to pass âdo I get angry at the thought of poor people buying this?â review
If you already think SNAP EBT should be abolished, then I donât really care because you take issue with all of it, and this is merely one example
If you're paying $40 a pound (including shell!) for your protein, you aren't desperate. It's "food" but so is haddock. Now, just because you can spend your handouts on luxuries doesn't necessarily mean that everyone does, but so far as people do, it's a sign that welfare should be managed from a level where the deserving can be discerned from the undeserving.
So what threshold separates âluxuriesâ from âessentialsâ? Is it simply price per pound of product?
The proper term is necessity, a necessity is an item or service essential for basic survival, like food, water, and shelter, while a luxury is a non-essential that enhances quality of life but isn't required for survival, such as designer clothing, expensive food or vacations.
You know this, you're just pretending you don't, in an attempt to make people's outrage at using tax payer money on luxury goods, when the same tax payers cannot afford said luxury goods, and must spend frugally.
Please, stop standing up and proudly declaring you are the very person this post is complaining about, I beg.
I agree! The poors should only be allowed the bare minimum protein slop required for basic motor functions! They shouldnt have access to flavor, that's entirely the purview of the privileged and elite of society! Why should the mongrel hordes of filth dirtying our streets be allowed access to a single solitary item of comfort! That's a violation of my privilege as a human of means and money! How dare the rabble assume the right to anything more than gruel, water, and hardtack?!
Imagine being so dense that you see no difference from "people on welfare shouldn't be spending the cost of several full meals for multiple people on a single pound of luxury meat" and "people on welfare should eat literally only the cheapest food possible." You could give Donald Trump a run for his money in how you only see things in extremes.
You tell me where you can buy several full meals for multiple people for 10 dollars. Where are you hiding this super food. Who do you work for
I was talking about the $40 for one pound of meat.
Respond to that guy then, I'm using sarcastically hyperbolic dichotomy to highlight this guy's ridiculous take on "it's not about price per pound, it's about necessary lots of low quality food versus unnecessary little bit of high quality food" while somehow not realizing that that is exactly what "price per pound" means.

Ok let's bring it down onto a more personal level. You have a friend that tells you he is a bit cash strapped right now and asks you to pay for the next meal, you are also a bit tight with cash right now since there was an unexpected bill this month but you still are better off than him, so you say "Ok" and of you both go to a restaurant.
You order a small salad and spaghetti, since you have to be a bit careful with the money this month. Your friend orders the lobster tails with a bottle of champagne and caviar.
What would you think of him then? What would you think of a person that takes advantage of your kindness like that?
And don't tell me you would accept that. It's your hard earned money and you're not in the position to simply throw it at lobster and caviar.
How expensive is it? Is it 10 bucks? Because yeah, that's fine. And your metaphor is dumb anyway.
Let's go with an actual example I experienced a few months ago when my friend was strapped for cash and needed money to get through the month between jobs. I was making plenty and had enough surplus to cover my stuff and subsidize them for a few weeks. I agreed to give them a set amount each week while they found new work. I did not tell them what they could and couldn't buy with it, because once I gave them that money, it was theirs. I encouraged them, even, to go to a fancy steak place to celebrate a year away from their shitty ex fiance. Because I recognize and accept that people need to feel happy before they'll feel comfortable being productive again.
They took care of some vehicle payments, some rent, and had enough left to go to a con they enjoyed and get some merch they had wanted for a long time but couldn't afford before. I was stoked they were taking care of their emotional needs and having a good time for the first time in a long time. Do you know how long it had been since they did anything at all for themself? No, you don't. Because you treat these people like metaphors. You don't know them. You aren't friends with them. You don't talk to them every day.
You look at what they have to work with, and get furious that they have a chance to have a small luxury now and then. As if you don't have countless luxuries in comparison.
Also, is this just an optics complaint? Lobster tails are food, these ones certainly donât seem to be a luxury (any more than something like cookie dough or honey or tea).

Ah yes, protein slop, that's what cheap cuts of meat are!
Budgeting, and being financially responsible? Never heard of the concept!
Fucking retard.
It's 10 dollars you imbecile

Jurassic Park except they provide proper enrichment for the animals and they therefor donât feel the need to hunt slow, small humans.
âWe stuffed this pumpkin full of live goats for the T. rex watch him try to get them out with his little fingers.â
âTurns out the raptors are cage breakers, so weâve gotten them a series of door handles to manipulate. Little guys just love it.â
"The Rexes are incredibly affectionate pack animals, so we were careful to breed multiples. Be sure to come during spring time to watch them go broody over anything even vaguely egg-shaped." "We put the Raptors through target training and now if they are bored, hungry, or just want a scratch under the chin they go to spot near the bars and ring a little bell for attention." "Imprinting after hatching was so common that we now have keepers under contract to care for the animals well into adulthood to prevent them from pining." "The Gallimimus turned out to be just giant Canada Geese, and so fear nothing. Their keeper regularly has to stop them from trying to attack fences, guests, feeding buckets, and the now traumatised pack of Ceratosaurs in the next paddock."
"We also fired Dr. Henry Wu."
This is unjustified Dr. Wu hate and I won't tolerate it. The Jurassic World movies slaughtered his character, who in the book was the ONLY person trying to get Hammond to realize the dinosaurs they made were far too dangerous, and they didn't have to be, because no one knew what a dinosaur was. He begged Hammond to let him make them safer, slower, but Hammond refused because "They wouldn't be real dinosaurs," to which he replied "They aren't real NOW! They have frog DNA! Let me make them safe!"
Multiple chapters included an extended conversation where Dr. Wu begged, BEGGED Hammond to listen to sense, to reason, to understand that they had needlessly dangerous unsettling animals that only vaguely resembled ancient dinosaurs, and that they didn't have to be, because guests wouldn't know the difference if the animals were made more docile, slower, less prone to violence. Hammond was the bastard who demanded they continue without thought or sense.
