few things greater about the german language than the expression "ich bin/ich fΓΌhl mich erschlagen". have i been crushed on accident by a falling tree or has someone hit me with a blunt object? either way, i am tot
I'm also a big fan of the phrase "ich fΓΌhl mich gerΓ€dert". So tired i might as well have been tortured to death
gerΓ€dert, for those who don't know, comes from "das Rad" (the wheel) β RΓ€dern is (or was, I suppose) a form of execution using a very big wheel
check wikipedia if you want all the gruesome details!
i only knew half of the info up there β¬οΈ
being a criminal way back then was rough smh
Execution by breaking wheel took place in two stages: first, the body of the condemned person was mutilated, but not killed, and then they were tied to the wheel and publicly displayed. A distinction was made between the more painful method "from below" and the quick death "from above." In both cases, the condemned were led to a scaffold and tied to the ground. The first, more common variant involved the executioner first breaking the bones of the lower legs and then working his way up to the arms. To do this, he dropped the breaking wheel, which was often fitted with an iron edge, onto the limbs. The rhythm and number of blows were prescribed in each case, and sometimes the number of spokes on the wheel. To increase its effectiveness, sharp-edged pieces of wood, known as cramps, cribs, or breakers, were placed under the joints. Later, devices were developed in which the condemned person could be "clamped" in place. As an act of mercy, the executioner could be instructed to kill the condemned person at the end of the first act by delivering a coup de grΓ’ce to the neck or heart. Even more rarely, this type of killing took place at the very beginning of the execution by breaking on the wheel "from above" or "from the head down."
In the second act, the body was woven into another wheel, which was possible due to the broken limbs, or tied to it. The wheel was then erected on a stick or stake. Afterwards, the executioner was allowed to behead or strangle the condemned person if necessary. Alternatively, a fire was lit under the wheel, or the person was thrown with the wheel into the fire. Occasionally, a small gallows was erected on the wheel, for example if the verdict was theft in addition to murder. If the victim was not killed by the executioner, they could continue to live for several hours in extreme agony until death occurred due to circulatory collapse.
Since the body remained on the wheel after execution and was left to decay or to be eaten by animals, this form of punishment, similar to ancient crucifixion, had a sacred function beyond death: according to the beliefs of the time, the lack of burial prevented resurrection.
If the tortured person fell from the wheel while still alive, or if the execution failed in some other way, this was interpreted as divine intervention. For example, there are votive images of people who were saved from being broken on the wheel, and there is literature on the best treatment for such injuries.
If youβre experiencing homelessness, or finding yourself without a secure place to stay, you donβt have to navigate things on your own.
Depending on where you live, nonprofit organizations, groups, and government agencies exist and are often able to provide you with support and resources. There is nothing ever wrong with asking for support when you need it, with this as with everything else. Support might look like case management services that can help keep you organized, shelter and housing support, or help finding jobs or support to stay in school or get back into school.
In this new installment of their series for homeless or transient youth, Sassafras Patterdale fills you in on what these services can look like, navigating waitlists, how to advocate for yourself in them, and more.
If youβre experiencing homelessness, or finding yourself without a secure place to stay, you donβt have to navigate things on yourΒ own.
Ever wondered why Scarleteen has a whole series for unhoused and housing transient youth? LGTBQ+ youth disproportionately experience homelessness compared to their straight and cis peers. In the US, up to 40% of unhoused youth identify as LGBTQ+.
Thatβs why this series was created - to provide support, essential tips, and resources to youth who are so often overlooked by the system. Share this series and the article above with your community and those you care about <3

Need me some luck
Y'know that quote about "if you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong room"
Also applies to queerness and neurodivergency
idk how to compare those lol
The original quote's purpose is to say that you should always seek out people smarter than you for your own intellectual development.
If I'm the gayest and most mentally ill person in the room, I need to find a room with more gay and mentally ill people for my own gay and mentally ill development.
And thats why you are on Tumblr
You get it
wanted to post this but i think it's essential to keep the context that i sat on it for several months

a very sleepy weekend. on friday i got up at 3pm, saturday got up at 2, then today got up at 12:30. a few weeks ago i took my first sleep study at a sleep clinic, but the study itself was so uncomfortable that i couldn't sleep at all, so i have no clue what they'll gather from that. blood tests are all negative. all i know right now is that i'm tired very often, but i don't necessarily feel that i am stressed or overexerting myself either. my doctor has asked if i've been anxious or overthinking, but in all sincerity i feel very happy with how my studies are going right now, i have good friends, i feel optimistic about the future, and things are going great. maybe i will never get the answer to why i keep sleeping so much or fall asleep when i try to read for long periods of time. either way, i am resting.

fun fact there were at least two people named lancelot recorded in the 1292 paris census so I think we know what the 13th century equivalent of naming your kid sasuke was
other names that sound normal now but are actually From Pop Culture- meaning they were used for fictional characters before they became real-people names -include:
- Mavis (from the book The Sorrows of Satan, 1895)
- Pamela (from the book The Countess of Pembrokeβs Arcadia, late 16th century, but popularized by the 1740 novel Pamela)
- Imogen (from Shakespeareβs play Cymbeline, c. 1611. possibly a typesetting error on the earlier name Innogen)
- Enola (from the book Enola, or Her Fatal Mistake, 1886)
- Vanessa (from the poem Cadenus and Vanessa, 1812)
- Cedric (from the book Ivanhoe, 1819. transposition of letters from the earlier Saxon name Cerdic)
- Dorian (from the book The Picture of Dorian Gray, 1891. similar masculine names had previously existed, like Dorus, Doros, and Dorios, but Wilde is believed to have coined this specific usage)
- Jessica (from Shakespeareβs play The Merchant of Venice, c. 1596-7. Possibly an Anglicization- Italianization? -of the Hebrew name Yiskah, since the character is Jewish)
β Wendy (from Peter Pan, 1904. It was sometimes used beforehand as a nickname for Gwendolyn, but wasn't used as a given name until J. M. Barrie popularized it.)
β Cora (from the book The Last of the Mohicans, 1826.)
β Lorna (from the book Lorna Doone, 1869.)
β Miranda (from Shakespeare's play The Tempest, c. 1610-11.)
β Norma (from Alexandre Soumet's play Norma, ou L'infanticide, 1831, best known as the source for Bellini's opera Norma, which premiered later the same year.)
kill the imposter syndrome in your head because not only is there someone out there doing it worse than you, theyβre also using chat gpt to do it
There are so many beautiful names that go unused
Ophelia, Cassandra, Delilah, Helena, Eleanor, Beatrice, Cordelia, Viola, Audrey
Like these are just beautiful names (sadly they just won't fit for me) so like if any girls are looking for names, here are some suggestions
I'd take some boy name suggestions if you have any
