to those of you who are moving here from tiktok, from someone whos used both tiktok and tumbr for years...
1. DO NOT censor your posts
dont censor sex, abuse, suicide, dont censor it. we dont have censors like tiktok does, you wont be banned for talking about these things and tagging them properly helps people avoid them (also, we dont have shadowbanning here)
2. we dont really have an algorithm
you follow who you follow, and you see posts from who you follow or what you search. the 'for you page' is basically useless here. this also brings me to my next two points
3. dont crosstag
we get it, on tiktok you have to crosstag for reach, but thats not really a thing here. just tag your posts properly (also posters often leave more info about the post in the tags!! and when you reblog stuff you can leave your own notes in the tags, kind of like the old "repost comments" on tiktok)
4. dont expect to go viral/be famous
"viral" isnt really a thing on here (at least not for the average blogger). your posts will probably get 2-10 likes and you wont get nearly as many followers than on tiktok. thats just how tumblr is
5. blocking is your best friend
tiktok is VERY discussion based, and while tumblr is much more discussion based than other social medias, its still not a good place for ragebait/discourse. dont interact, itll make your experience worse in the end, just block and move on
6. you cant go into someone elses house and start rearranging their furniture
this is tumblr, not tiktok. dont diss old tumblr users for how they use the site or try to change them, thats like going into someone elses house and trying to rearrange their furniture. we've been here longer and we're familiar with the site and its culture, either find your niche, adapt, or find a different app
Another important point
You need to actually reblog posts for this site to work as it should.
Liking posts only saves them in a spot that no one checks except for the user who liked them. Most people have their liked posts hidden.
Also, this site has a spam bot problem. One way we weed those out is to check the blog to see if it's actually being used to post legitimate content. If there is absolutely nothing on your blog you're getting blocked and some users may just straight up report you as spam as a precaution.
Not to mention that the posts you reblog will only be seen by you and whoever follows you. Tagging it "fyp" does absolutely nothing.
ok i need people who are happy about the tiktok ban to understand your opinion should actually have nothing to do with the fact that itās tiktok. like you can hate tiktok. but supporting the ban is supporting censorship, full stop.
like, i fucking hate twitter. itās a hellhole. would i celebrate if it went bankrupt and shutdown? probably! would i celebrate if the GOVERNMENT BANNED IT? ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOT. because the government SHOULD NOT be making decisions about how and what people are allowed to talk about on the internet. ever.
āi donāt like the precedent but im happy if itās just tiktokā stfu and think for a second if they only ban tiktok and nothing else ever thatās still censorship
Well shit, my tumblr didnt die.

the chant was not "we will not be replaced," it was "jews will not replace us"
i see all of you writing the former over the latter in your posts and comments and so does every other jewish person on this website.
please reblog this, especially if youāre not jewish.

FCC halts public comments on Net Neutrality
After hearing from so many angry Americans who wanted to preserve net neutrality rules that they had to invent a seemingly fictional ādenial of serviceā attack to explain their servers melting down, the FCC has solved the problem by telling the public to go fuck themselves.
The FCC will no longer accept public comments on Net Neutrality, while it āreflectsā on the comments itās received.
You can still tell the FCC what you think by posting to EFFās DearFCC.org site ā EFF will make sure the commissioners get your comments.

this is excellent and very easy to use! they have a template and you have a couple places to personalize it, and then on the next page, you can change or edit anything in the template too. hereās part of my comment:
The internet connects me to family and friends, as well as my workplace and educational resources. Itās not just about entertainment or getting movies streamed to my PC faster by paying more for āfast laneā service. Itās about continuing to be able to use the internet for research and education, trusting that websites run by universities and research organizations are given the same priority as those run by far wealthier politically motivated action groups seeking to push their agendas instead of giving factual, NEUTRAL information. Access to money should never determine access to information.

Why do my interests in canning, couponing, and homesteading overlap so often with blogs with titles likeĀ āThe Obedient Housewifeā?Ā
Like, Iām like, āI want to learn to make soap and farm,ā and suddenly I see 500 ātraditional familyā motherfuckers like no you are mistaken. I am just a simple lesbian anticapitalist looking to limit my consumerism as much as possible.
āthese fun crafts will keep your kids occupied until your husband gets home!ā no i want a clothespin crown for me
As a nerd who homesteads, let me share the data I have gathered!
First is my megalistĀ of homesteading-related links Iāve gatheredĀ over the years. Iām a mod over at r/homesteading and this is where Iāve put a lot of good sources (not all, admittedly some are still sitting in my bookmark folder waiting to be added). The search function at reddit is wretched, but thereās also been lots of good things Iāve shared there too. Please note that many of these sources are not actual webpages, but PDFs. Thatās not an accident, PDFs are where you find the really good in-depth stuff.
Many of my sources are from the Extension Service. They wonāt try to relate to you based on your lifestyle or sexual identity or religion or whatever, but due to that, they also wonāt be alienating you either.
The CooperativeĀ Extension ServiceĀ (US only) exists in all 50 states and in most counties. It is taxpayer funded. The Extension Service exists to help people become more self sufficient, for farmers to be more successful, for people to be healthier, for kids to be well adjusted, to figure out how to grow the best plants in your area, etc. Some county offices even offer cheap classes in things like gardening, canning, soap making, and theyāre taught by people with training in these areas (I once heard a great talk on composting from a soil scientist that way). Do you want to know what type of plant something is? Do you need help figuring out a plant disease or pest issue? You can now contact them online and get great info.
I HIGHLY recommend checking out your stateās extension service website, because they do offer different types of information, depending on what is grown/raised where you are (and how well funded they are). My county extension puts out a monthly gardening newsletter, which includes a helpfulĀ āthis is the time of the year to do ā-ā part.
Hereās an example from North CarolinaĀ - check out that left sidebar
Hereās an example from California - this website is HUGE so dig around
Hereās an example from New YorkĀ - they have a calendar at the bottom, showing how they have things like hydroponic and urban agriculture workshops coming up.
Interested in raising animals? Penn State Extension is really really good. They have tons of free materials and courses available online, some I pulled for my megalist at the top of this.
National Center for Home Food Preservation - they cover the important aspects of food safety, and also have some recipes. Many state Extension Service websites will have lots more recipes.
If you have kids, check out 4-H programs for them. Itās part of the local public school system here. If youāre homeschooling, you can also purchase their science-filled educational and self sufficiency materialsĀ (materials are divided by age ranges - Cloverbud Member: ages 5-8, Junior Member: ages 9-13, Senior Member: ages 14-19). One of my coworkers is in 4-H, sheās still in high school, and last year she raised an award-winning heifer.
Congress grants the money for funding these programs, and theyāre connected with various universities. Thereās a level of cutting edge scientific knowledge and academic rigor you donāt find in blogs or even most books. Thereās LOTS of homesteading books filled with outdated information likeĀ ātill the earth every yearā hell I still have older coworkers who do it and Iām trying to figure out how to gently tell them that theyāre destroying their soil that way, and that thereās better methods now, methods grounded in science.
