the "coping mechanism" defense has never meant shit to me. people come on here and lie and exaggerate all the damn time and know they won't ever be forced to prove they're telling the truth. you can lie and pretend and roleplay as much as you'd like and nobody is gonna say anything. and I know for a fact a huge chunk of people who even bother to use the "it's a coping mechanism" defense are full of shit. but even if they're not one of the ones that lie, I don't really give a damn because "I'm coping" ain't a fuckin excuse dude. it's an explanation at best, a start to a dialogue - not an end.
it's become a fuckin get out of jail free card, a thought-terminating cliche. like victims are allowed to do whatever the fuck they want and fuck everybody else?? it's bullshit. coping mechanisms are just as worthy of scrutiny as anything else a person does. in fact, they can often be the most important thing to question while in recovery.
but "I'm coping" is, at its core, an anti-recovery sentiment. you don't wanna get better, you wanna wrap yourself up in maladaptive coping mechanisms and huff your own trauma 24/7 because you're scared of who you are without it, scared to really take a good look at yourself and see how you're hurting people around you because you have ten tons of unresolved bullshit you refuse to deal with. how on earth does any of that justify publicly spanking your shit to CP or dead animals or whatever the fuck?? it doesn't.
and people use their victim status to abuse and traumatize others in order to dodge accountability btw. it's like the oldest play in the fucking book.
so yeah, idgaf if you're "coping". beating your ass to pieces is my coping mechanism. have some fuckin basic empathy and respect. and if all else fails, keep that shit to yourself. y'all will find any excuse in the book to justify your shitty behavior instead of just working to better yourself and taking responsibility.
and yeah, this applies to every situation. I've had severe psychotic breaks where I said and did shit that were not okay - I didnt make excuses and call people ableist for not being cool with that. I apologized and talked it out and tried my best to avoid doing it ever again. I felt genuinely bad. even though I'd have dissociative episodes and blackouts and genuinely couldn't remember the shit I did or said, I still apologized. I explained. I didn't demand that people just accept my shitty behavior. I didn't start publicly defending CSAM or post my self harm or start romanticizing a deadly ED or start a donation scam or say slurs or whatever the fuck else you people do under the justification of "coping".
grow TF up. your behavior is toxic and ableist and it makes shit worse for victims and children, and makes shit easier for predators and abusers. 🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕
