Snippet from the chapter that became a small story
He wasn't sure what was going through his head. He hadn't been sure for weeks now.
Everything was just happening so fast that he could hardly comprehend his own mind, let alone the thoughts of others.
But as he stared into the never ending ocean that were the waterbenders eyes, he did know one thing.
She was the embodiment of hope in human form.
The anti zutaras almost made me forget how bad the bbrae fans can be.
Almost. Ive been pro zutara for ever and have been lucky enough to not get those anti lunatics in my comments but I end up getting a beast boy raven defender in a post that tagged just anti bbrae in a slew of various other ships I do not like and find problematic.

I made one post. One post with a negative opinion about beast boy and this lunatic is back. In what's mostly been an Anti anti zutara week of ranting.
And this nut job comes back . Forgot about the whole space tagging thing and this person. But omg theyre still going. And today I feel like fighting back. Fuck it.
The world is full of things you dont like. I dont like that Argentina is winning. So I dont interact with things having to do with them.
I domt like aang and honestly If I see good art I say nice and move on
And people who say Bryke wasnt an asshat duo about Zutara....
The entire ember island theater episode was a literal diss at the fans.
They pick apart things like zutara, they make fun of kataras and her hope. They make fun of people viewing aang as feminine and Make fun of the fact that sokka is the funny guy.
They did under the guise of "parody" but honestly we all know it was to make fun of zutara.
"I insulted everyone so its fair. "
Sober thoughts..
A "romance" written by two ( mostly white)men (or also a notably sexist terf) will always be a romance written by two white men and a woman who panders to men.....
Bad ...and only appreciated by other men and women who would sell their soul for their man that does the bare minimum. Oh and probably trumpets... i said what I said. Ive been in so many fandoms with so much hate in them as of late. And I can really only conflate that with the uprising of conservatism in the gen z and alpha kid/young adults.
Its happening at the same time. And while I fully do think the "woke" side can be just as toxic. At least that side is fueled by a desire to see some sort of world peace and not a world with peace only for "my people"
And funnily enough the show with the least shipping discourse for me has been Steven universe because hey look they make their characters grow up. Stevonnie is the only cannon childhood crush ill ever accept and if they dont end up cannon in the future ill accept ot too because that's actually pretty normal.
Aang could have looked like this.
This is probably the only time you’ll ever see me draw aang and I did it out of spite ..because yeah the movie is very pretty. But that’s a young Mr. Clean.
And that comment about him being tall ripped broad shoulders etc. doesn’t sit right with me.
He also looks nothing like any other air nomad in the series. Not even tenzin. (Okay maybe aang insert jinora but that’s another rant)

Total haterade and a bit immature (but I thought it was funny) here but if I were to give kataang a song it would be slim Pickens by Sabrina carpenter.
And man child too.
A decade of war, a decade of carnage and death and destruction. Soon it would come to an end.
Very soon. She felt it in her bones.
For these last ten years since the failed assault during the comet, they had been preparing. They had been training and building skills so they could save the world. So they could end the carnage, death and destruction.
But as hard as they trained, so had the fire nation. So had Ozai, Azula and so had Zuko.
Katara took a deep breath.
She hadn't expected to be facing any fire benders today but they had been ambushed.
Azula and her gang had gone after Aang. Sokka and Toph had gone after them to assist their avatar. Katara stayed behind to help their troops fend off the fire navy.
She had managed to take down about a dozen on her own with a strong tidal wave from the river that supplied their water.
They had not brought too many and if her and the freedom fighters, Kyoshi warriors, the water tribe troops and so on could hold on for just a moment more, they would win this battle.
“I'm going after Aang and the others,” she yelled out to Sukki.
She trusted the warrior with this task. She had managed to escape the enemy prisons and various guards alone.A few reserve troops were nothing compared to her experience with that.
Hitching a ride on the river she made her way towards Aang but had only made it a mile or two before she was being pelted by a blast of fire spheres.
She managed to evade them but was knocked off her wave and submerged her in the water. She only narrowly managed to avoid a blast of water-boiling fire.
Regaining her momentum she burst out of the water and quickly tried to find her assailant.
He saw her first and she was only just able to dive back into the water, the fire he had sent singing her clothes.
Kataras’ fists tightened.
It was him.
The man who betrayed her trust, the man who almost got their avatar killed twice.
Zuko.
Once again she emerged from the river but with a wave of ice and water shielding her. Zuko paused his attack.
“You should just give up,” he said to her.
Katara held back the desire to roll her eyes. Even after all these years the man was so foolishly arrogant.
But that wasn't really a surprise.
Their first fight in a decade and he was telling her to give up as if she was the weaker one.
It would be laughable if hadn't been so inane.
“Should I now,” she spat back. “I've taken down half your troops by myself and the rest of my troops are taking down what's left of yours. It looks like to me you're the one who needs to back down. Before you get hurt.”
He scowled. It was the same face from their adolescent years. The same anger, sadness and an inherent confusion. Just like that fateful day in the crystal catacombs, the boy (now a man), had no idea what he wanted or what he was doing.
He stood there on the ground, his hair now long, his face now mature and even more handsome but still so...lost.
“Why are you still doing this?” she asked him.
He sneered this time. His nose flared like it always had.
“You know why.”
This time she rolled her eyes. She did know why and why was as stupid as day one. Angered by her belittling, he responded with a blast of fire she was easily able to avoid with a well placed thrust of water.
She caught herself and sent a disc of ice at the man who melted it quickly.
“You're a grown man now,” she growled. “And yet you're still looking for your non-existent honor. News flash, if you haven't found it by now then maybe it's not that you can't find it, maybe it's just your lack of it.”
Zuko sent a barrage of flames towards her, all which she avoided.
“What do you even know about me?” he yelled. “You think because we had that little moment in the cave that you know anything about me? That's a laugh.”
The two continued to battle. Fire hitting water, steam and dust filling the air, each avoiding the other's attacks. Finally Katara was able to encause the man in strong and solid ice.
He was effectively stopped and now in her mercy. Even with the blaring sun, she had him tied down.
“I know enough,” she said from her position in the water. “I know from your actions that you're nothing but a coward. I know from your obsession with honor that you're a fool. I know from Iroh that you're a disappointment. This could have all been so different if you had just done the right thing for once!”
Her voice had become deafening for her own ears.
She was so angry.
So angry at Zuko, at this war. She was angry at the past decade that was only ever filled with fighting. With death. First her mother ,then Jet , then Gran Gran and so many others. She was so angry at Azula for hitting Aang that time, she was angry at Aang for being hit.
She was angry at Aang for losing the battle during the comet. After that he had never been the same. She was angry at his coldness. She was angry at the earth kingdom for falling so easily.
She was angry at her father for abandoning them again and disappearing to the sea. She was angry that she didn't know if he was dead or alive.
And she was angry, so very angry, at Zuko.
She felt the anger rumble through her entire being. From her head to her chest to her toes. She was so angry and so enraged by Zuko.
She felt her anger try to escape. He must have felt it too because as she sent the strongest wave of water towards him ,he sent the strongest burst of fire towards her.
Ice cold water collided with the hot burning fire. There was an explosion of steam so hot and yet so cold that she could feel her face reddening from the intense temperature but still she kept her water and ice going strong, protecting her from his continuously blowing flames .
What was minutes felt like it had drawn on for hours. Neither relented until the other was all out of power and eventually both fell.
Zuko fell onto the ground and Katara fell into the water.
If she could, she would have taken a deep breath but she had no more strength, no more energy. She could feel her body being dragged down by the pressure of the river.
She lost this fight, she realized. While the man before her would stand and rise after a bit of rest, she would soon lose what remained of the air in her lungs and fully sink to the riverbed that was so far down.
As she sank she wondered what would happen after everyone realized she was gone.
Would Sokka be okay? She didn't want Sokka to be hurt by this.
Would Aang finally be consumed by the ever so creeping darkness that had been after him since the day of black sun?
It was getting unbearably cold now. Even the coldest nights back home were nothing compared to this cold she was beginning to feel.
She looked up above her. She could just barely make out the sun. How for once she wanted its power , its heat on her.
Her eyes began to get heavy and not from the pressure of the water. It was almost over now.
She could hear her mothers voice. She could see her arm reaching for her now. She couldn't move to grab it but still she felt a strange comfort when it grabbed her.
Suddenly she was being hauled up and out of the water, her body taking an immediate gasp of air into her lungs.
She was back on land now and once she was able to catch her breath she found Zuko laying next to her in a heap.
He had saved her, she realized.
The confusion of it all had her falling into a heap right next to the firebender. She could feel his warmth and it was comforting.
“Why?” she managed to say.
There was a long stretch of silence. Only the sounds of the wind pushing the pebbles on the floor and the running water of the river beside them.
“You know why.”
She turned her head to glance at him. The confused fool.
She did know why and as much as she didn't want to admit it, she knew what she needed to do. What the universe was telling her to do.
“Iroh would forgive you, you know. He never used the words disappointment. I was just embellishing it.”
His good eye turned to her from its periphery.
“I know he would. And I know I'm a disappointment. But I know uncle would forgive me if I...you know..”
“Then why can't you just....do it.”
“That I don't know.”
He was lying. She knew he was afraid and so did he.
“Aang , Sokka and Toph are going to stop Azula,” Katara continued. “Aang isn't the same little boy who you fought against back then.”
“Fortunately for the avatar, Azula is the same,” Zuko replied. “Her arrogance is as bad as my delusional hope and it's only made her messier.”
She knew that already.
“Hope isn't delusional,” she replied. “What's foolish is what you're hoping for. You can leave with me right now Zuko. I'll vouch for you. Iroh will be happy to see you. We need something more to end this war and I think it's you. I think it's always been you.”
His eyes brightened, she could see it but a moment later they dulled again and he turned his head away.
“You're the last person I ever expected to consider me trustworthy,” he began. “You always struck me as someone who could hold a grudge.”
She laughed a short, huffy laugh.
“Maybe I would have if this had been when we were kids but I've grown up. I've had to learn to embrace more than just a change in people but the complete replacement of some of them even when they're still here.”
That harsh reality hurt her chest a little.
“You're talking about the avatar aren't you.”
She sighed. She was. Her fingers dug into the soil beneath her. She couldn't really find the words.
“We haven't fought in a few years,” he said. “But I've fought the avatar many times since black sun and I've noticed the constant change in him. I think it's my fault.”
Katara felt her chest tighten even more.
“It is,” she replied. “Sokka told me about your encounter with them and with your father during black sun.”
Aang never talked about it but Sokka did.
Zuko was the obstacle before reaching Ozai. He stood against the trio of Toph, Sokka and Aang with his swords. Sokka had said he was way more skilled than anyone could have expected.
He nearly succeeded in hitting Aang and had succeeded in slashing at Sokkas’ chest. Sokka nearly died. While Toph tried to stop the bleeding ,Aang had no choice but to follow after Zuko who had fled.
From then on no one knew what happened, only that Aang had not faced Ozai.
“He asked me to join you guys,” Zuko said, finally finishing the story. “He asked me to teach him fire bending and I replied by firebending at him. I took off during the confusion.”
Katara frowned a bit.
“When Sozin's comet came around he asked me again,” he continued. “Right before facing my father he fought me again and I think....”
Zuko froze.
Katara knew what he was going to say next.
“I gave Aang a good fight,” he said. “Too good and...”
“And Aang was too tired to fully take Ozai down. I wasn't able to stop Azula either. I won the fight but she got away when I went to help A badly burned Iroh. You both helped him escape.”
There was another long silence.
“We should have let him die. Without his bending he was so angry. He turned that anger on me and also became a martyr.”
“Aang felt defeated after that,” Katara admitted. “He still does. It's almost irrevocably changed him for the worse. But I still have hope that I can find that light in him and pull it out.”
The dust and steam they had created finally died down. She could see the colorful sky now, the sun setting off in the distance.
It was calm. Quiet except for the occasional cheers from her comrades. They had won and were probably on the prowl for any stragglers.
“It's now or never Zuko,” Katara said as she began to try and stand up.
Zuko stood first.
There was a strange sensation. Like time had stopped and now she was waiting. Waiting for an answer from Zuko or another betrayal.
He put his arm out and Katara felt a breathtaking fear in her.
It was truly now or never.
He could kill her. He could burn her to a crisp like the fire nation soldier had done to her mother.
He could pull her up and take her hostage. A fate more than likely worse then death.
He moved forward and grabbed her hand.
“I want to end this war,” he said as he hoisted her onto her feet. “And I want to help you be the ones to end it.”
He kneeled to the ground. From the horizon she could see her comrades rushing towards her.
She looked at Zuko who was on both knees now, his body bent forward in a plee for forgiveness.
“If you betray me again I will kill you.”
She heard him chuckle.
“Noted.”

Alluring Red Eyes
The manor was well lit and kept warm even during this horrid Gotham winter. Various fireplaces , the best money could buy, were scattered around the building. The kind housekeeper , singular housekeeper at that, kept them consistently burning along with various candles, lanterns and the like.
It was easy to navigate even with its abnormally large size. All but the west wing to be exact.
The west wing was dark and shadowy. No lit candles ,no semblance of warmth. It had seemed empty at a glance. An abandoned section of the extravagantly large Wayne manor. But of course she could see past that. She could see , no ,feel the presence that emanated from the dark area.
“Raven,” it was her host, Timothy Drake, one of Bruce Wayne's wards. “I'm telling you for your own good. Let it go. Yes there is something there. No it's not going to hurt us. Yes we have the issue under control. But still, it poses a threat to strangers like you.”
She nodded. The last thing she wanted to do was overstep her boundaries. She had only been invited on the pretense that she would examine a sickly Lord Richard Grayson, another ward. In reality she was here to release a curse placed upon him by one of the group's many, many enemies.
It would be rude to snoop. Truly it would look bad upon her and her craft and azar knows Bruce Wayne already had a disdain for her type of craft.
She nodded and followed Timothy to the infirmary. Still the cold and dark feeling followed her like the very shadow her body created on a sunny day.
....
Later after breaking the curse on Richard and subsequently healing him , Raven found herself needing a calming round of meditation.
The room she had been assigned was large, larger than her current home of she was being honest.
And while the decor suited her tastes by being simple and a little gothic ,it was the vastness of the room that made her uneasy. She could not find a good enough flow for her meditation.
Deciding that she needed a new setting ,Raven made her way to the garden.
With it being a cold winter's night , the garden was a bit lifeless. Only a blanket of snow was present but because of the brickwork and outdoor fixtures, there was a unique and stylish place for her that made her feel calm.
She sat in a lotus pose on a bench, her body floating, no part of her touching the cold rock. With a serene headspace, she began her mantra.
Still, the unease inhibited any sense of zen she could muster.
She left out a cold breath and looked around.
The Wayne manor was all she could see. Windows, doors, a terrace or two. All dark and covered for the night, anh occupants either sleeping or patrolling the city leaving the room empty.
All except one.
It was a room located in the west wing. While it was also dark the light of the moon still made the person's silhouette visible.
It was a man. Not Timothy, not Lord Richard, not Lord Wayne. The physique was built strong and close to the master of the house however.
She looked at him. Then he looked at her and a shiver ran through her body.
Red.
Blood red eyes were now staring at her, into her. She was the empath but now she felt like she was being read like an open book.
Not liking the feeling she quickly stood up and made her way back inside. Her robe nearly billowing in the cold air reminded her that all she wore was the robe and a night dress she had packed. Now feeling naked she rushed to get inside.
With a quick disrobing and hair braiding, she plopped into the feather mattress bed.
As simple as the manor was, everything was still so luxurious. They didn't spare any comfort, even in the guest rooms. Silk bedding, African blackwood furniture, an ensuite tub. All things necessary and unnecessary for a good night's rest .
Still sleep evaded her.
She closed her eyes and tried to listen to the sound of the wind. But in the darkness of an attempted slumber red eyes popped open, staring at her.
She shot out of her bed , her body now lightly moistened by a layer of sweat. Her hair had called from its braid so she sat in the ornate vanity mirror to fix it.
She looked at her reflection and nearly jumped from her seat. It wasn't that she looked a mess even though she did, no it was the distorted image that stared back at her that shocked her.
There was a reason why red eyes made her nervous.
Staring back at her was her but that part of her she tried so desperately to hide.
Four red eyes, pale skin that was nearly white, red hair the color of the devil and sharpened teeth like a demon. Not like a demon, a demon. Her demon.
Her.
She hated that part of her heritage. The unforgiving monster that didn't just reside in her, it was her.
“You know you want to,” she said, her voice as distorted as the image. “It's calling out.”
Raven stood up quickly and nearly ran out the door. She wasn't going to it however..no she just needed to take a walk and get out of that room.
She strolled through the hallways blindly, her head in the clouds.
Nothing was calling to her. Whatever was hiding in the shadows was not her problem.
She found herself stopping at a hallway entrance. That hallway.
Dark and eerie, cold but not empty.
She took a step back, needing to get away but before she could even finish putting her foot on the ground, a shadowy tendril shot out and dragged forward.
She didn't want to scream , she didn't want to worry Timothy. She used her power to try and escape but she was only dragged further into the dark abyss of a hallway. She tried to grab for anything , her hand managed to grab what felt like a door frame which she was sure she scratched as she was dragged in.
After more struggle she was finally released.
Using her magic she lit up the room, a purple sheen Illuminating her way. She recognized it as the room where the silhouette had been.
“Boo.”
It was a smooth, masculine voice. One that made her nearly fly to the ceiling and blast with her magic.
She was about to die. This monster was before her now, tempting her to who knew what. And yet it didn't strike, it didn't move, all it did was cock its brow at her, like it was confused.
“It's unbecoming of a guest to wander about a restricted area of the home that was so graciously opened to her.”
She felt her body relax.
The monster wasn't a monster at all but a man. Or perhaps a monster in a man's skin.
He was tall and looked a lot like the master of the house Lord Wayne only his skin was more of a brown , perhaps middle eastern or South Asian. His eyes were green but had more of an east Asian shape to them. No red eyes.
He was extremely handsome.
She wondered if he was a doppelganger of Lord Wayne. One similar to Connor who was a strange Frankensteined creation. The man didn't feel like that however. She could sense the magic and science that was used to create Connor. This man seemed more natural but also tainted.
Tainted by something sinister.
“What are you?* She asked him, her voice not as stern as she would have hoped.
He clicked his teeth and rolled his eyes.
“Who I am is Damian Wayne,” he said matter of factly. “What I am wondering is why you disregarded specific instructions to avoid this corner of the manor? Not very ladylike if you ask me.”
Raven could feel his arrogance even without her empathic abilities and suddenly she felt flustered.
“Excuse me,” she stuttered. “You're the one who dragged me here with...”
“Stop right there,” the man said, taking a step forward, causing her to take a step back. “I did not call you over here at all. I've been watching you, yes, what man wouldn't let his gaze fall upon a woman like you especially in such a sheer robe. But let's get this straight witch, all of those creepy little tendrils were your doing . Not mine. But I understand it, I am alluring, aren't I?”
Raven felt her face flush, a creeping heat upon her cheeks that felt like she'd just walked into a bakers kitchen.
He was right. This had not been the first time she had manifested something with her abilities. She wanted to see the man she thought was a monster.
“You had red eyes,” she argued. “You aren't human so tell me.”
He smirked, blinked and when he opened his eyes they were as red as blood.

One of the funniest kataang moments for me is when they say "hell choose cosmic energy over katara " when in fact he did not.
And he still lost.
And also that is extremely arguably not a good reason to sacrifice the world. And regardless of being 12 he was raised as a monk.

Someone is never beating the self insert allegations...
And this is something that literally proves a thought i had the other day. Aang is never going to be written as a mature, realized character. He will always be written as a trope of a nice cute himbo because the creators have a mommy kink.
I do not like his type of character. Having moments of "maturity" does not a mature character make.
A few of my theories for season 3 of NAtLA
I think they've been really alluding to katara being the silent hero. Kinda reminds me if Eliza in Hamilton.
Like when Amita says she's the reason theyre there. When jet insults her attempts at helping as not doing anything. The blue spirit saving and reviving the painted lady flowers (i think that's a whole other thing but we can talk about that later). Aangs lashing out at her is also kind of key for his growth and realizations that he needs his friends because he is still a kid. And my biggest thing i noticed is during the library scene when the blue spirit is at arms length to grab aang. He looks at katara and you can feel the hestitancy and the guilt he feels. And his anger when looking up at aang and katara escape. He relaxes after looking at azula and she looks away. I think its intentional in the acting but unintentional for the character.
People say the writers love Zuko and I don't disagree. I think zuko had more aura in the og too. But I think this season (like in the og 2 and 3) they are really building up katara
I think the blood bending thing is going to happen episode 1 and as a flash back . I think they alluded to Aang needing way more than just the spirit water and Hama is going to be the one to show katara what that is by using blood bending. I think blood bending has precursors in different healing techniques that can so easily be used.
Cannot wait
