Imagine Nolan gets told by Debbie that Grayson!Reader found their soulmate and it's shortly after he killed the Guardians of the Globe. He's confused by the disgruntled look on her face but doesn't think anything of it as he steps into the living room. Only to you snuggled up to Damien fucking Darkblood looking through his notes on his investigation into the guardians' murder. Well shit.
I read this and immediately grinned like the Grinch
I'm just trying to imagine it.
Maybe it's a couple days after the funeral, long enough that Damien is obviously suspicious and on his trail but not too late in the timeline for Cecil to be about to send him to the underworld.
He's started to look elsewhere for clues, already having learned everything he could from the scene of the crime. So he stops by the Grayson household when he figures it's clear. The wife is late at work, the son out with the father; Damien doesn't account for you to be still home– or to hear him as you sleep, coming down to find a demon carefully looking around.
You hover at the bottom of the stairs, halfway into a fighting stance when you pause, feeling the bond pull taut.
Damien has dealt with many things during his years, but a half alien with a soulbond with him is certainly new.
Obviously, he's going to use it. Why wouldn't he? This bond is the perfect excuse to stick around. Plus, having a Viltrumite hero ally would make his detective work easier– sometimes, no matter how much damming evidence he finds, people still manage to worm their way out of punishment; you at least could... get rid of them. He's a demon, after all. He really doesn't care so long as some form of justice is done.
"Hrm." He glances over his shoulder at you, resting against him and following him around like a kite. "Warm. Like me." He says, feeling warm for the first time in decades. Earth's weather just didn't compare to the underworld's.
So he allows it. Agrees to this... bond. He finds he doesn't mind the company, especially not during the few times he rests, tail curling around your leg as he shared his body heat with you.
And then of course you want to introduce him to your parents, and he agrees– he'll have more access to the house then. To any potential evidence.
Which is when Nolan comes home to find the demon that's been on his trail cuddled up with his older child on the couch.
And there's nothing he can do about it because Damien is your soulmate. Viltrumites are beyond possessive and protective of their mates– if Nolan tries anything, he's going to lose you and your trust completely.
(Cue the most awkward dinner imaginable with you sitting happily besides Damien, Debbie wide-eyed over a glass of wine while trying to be a good host, Mark a mix of suspicious and curious as he asks questions, and Nolan silently simmering in discomfort.
Damien just enjoys the meal. "Good food." He compliments Debbie and Nolan just prays to the past emperors for this to end.)
