So, I know I’m gonna get backlash on this but quite frankly I don’t care. I’ve read her tweets. I’ve done my research. So why are we still shaming the girl who rose 100k+ money for the Australian Bushfires for being “racist”?
Just to clarify, I’m not supporting racism. I’m a massive activist for BLM and I am actively participating in attempting to stop the oppression that people of color face on a day to day basis. Racism isn’t okay, and neither is wearing racially oppressive Halloween Costumes.
HOWEVER, with everything I found, the racism claims towards the Naked Philanthropist are very loosely based and it’s all because someone dug up old tweets of hers in which she was wearing a Native Alaskan coustume on Halloween. That, in its self, is very racist. However the thing is, she had no idea. No one told her the racism or oppression behind the costume.
The tweet that sparked this controversy was this tweet made by lissalight on Twitter. As quoted, “...did we all forget about the racist tendencies of the naked philanthropist y’all are applauding...? it’s literally been like 3 months since she wore a racially insensitive Halloween costume for clout and not even a month ago posted a TikTok claiming to not be white” She also stated to support a different sex worker than The Naked Philanthropist, which if you know anything about sex work (which I do, considering I AM a sex worker) that is horrible and uncalled for. You are, potentially, risking her business and food for the table over something she didn’t realize.
Here’s the thing, it is confirmed despite not being, visually, a person of color, that the Naked Philanthropist is not white and to my knowledge (correct me if I’m wrong) is mixed.
Since this controversial post came about, The Naked Philanthropist has since apologized for it and has said that no one bothered to educate her on the racial meaning behind an indigenous Alaskan costume.
To shame those who do not know the meaning behind something is very distasteful. You should take this opportunity to educate, but instead you are shaming a woman for doing something she had no idea about.
The person and their followers behind the “scandal exposure” has since leaked her personal email as well.
The Naked Philanthropist has openly stated on her Twitter that the backlash revolving the bullying, because that’s what it is, has lead her to suicidal thoughts as stated in a brief sequence of tweets and replies. People are giving her, rightfully, support for this.
Since this came out as well, her nudes have since been leaked due to her being “racist.”
As I have stated previously, her not knowing about it being racially insensitive is the kick. She has stated on multiple occasions that she did not know about it. She didn’t have that big of a following before she made donations through her onlyfans account and more towards the Australia Bushfires. Hell, she was on a good standpoint with her family before this happened as well. But as we all know by her infamous tweet, her instagram was deleted, and her family disowned her. Of course, her crush also stopped talking to her but that was to be expected because a lot of people don’t value sex workers as people.
Now, I know this is a stretch, BUT are we really focusing on something that she was uneducated about rather than what she has DONE for Australia?
She has raised almost 1 million U.S dollars as of today through her work in order to fund the disaster and revival. With her money she raised alone, she has helped wildlife rescuers rescue millions of ANIMALS that had no chance of survival. With help of the Irwin family, she has helped save millions of native wildlifesingle handedly.
Why is it that whenever someone does something like this, people always jump to starting a scandal in order to shame someone. It shows with this alone that no one can do something good.
Rather she is racist or not is up for debate. Personally, I don’t think she is because she was uneducated and that fact alone should be enough for you to jump to actually educating instead of fighting her. What she has done is remarkable and if she truly is racist, and proves it in the following months, feel free to cancel her, but right now? You’re taking away a platform from her that she is using to save millions of animals with a simple picture of a boob.
Another point I’d like to point out is that a lot of you are still stanning Jeffree Star when he openly said the n word in past years for shock value. Both The Naked Philanthropist and Star has apologized, but I don’t know about you, but I’d rather still support and educate the uneducated than someone who said it for a shock value to promote music.
Capitalism kills, and with her work, the money used to help fund the survival of these precious, innocent animals that don’t know what the FUCK is happening, Capitalism is killing a little less, now.
If I get “canceled” I get canceled. If I get backlash I get backlash. If I get hated by users on Tumblr for my opinion I get hated. You need to support sex workers, and if this is seriously something you’re willing to stop supporting funds to Australia that she is not getting ANY money from, it shows your character, not mine.
