Feel free to shoot me an ask any time :) I love to chit-chat!
For some lore:
I realized I was a therian about 15 years ago when I stumbled across a wiki article for therianthropy over a decade ago. It put a name to thoughts and feelings I had had for as long as I could remember.
I've explored various possible theriotypes over the years--including mule deer, lion, and wolverine--but nowadays, I best understand myself as a mountain gorilla (primarily) and a red-tailed hawk (secondarily). Understanding myself and my experiences is a never-ending journey!
In my "human life", I'm a park ranger with a background in wildlife ecology. I'm also neurodivergent and a trans man. I do find my trans-ness and neurodiversity plays a part in my therianthropy, and you may see me ramble here and there about how those three things intersect in my own life.

Armed with dagger-like claws that can grow up to 4 in (10 cm) long, the Southern Cassowary (Casuarius casuarius) can leap nearly 7 ft (2 m) high and deliver a fatal kick. Often considered the worldβs most dangerous bird, this powerful animal can exceed weights of 130 lbs (59 kg) and reach heights of 6 ft (1.8 m). Despite its fearsome reputation, this typically shy species prefers to avoid human contact and can be found in the rainforests of northeastern Australia and New Guinea.Β

Not to sound like a fuckin hippie but please for the love of god start noticing and appreciating the natural world around you. You donβt have to go hike the entire Appalachian trail or anything and I get that not everyone has access to the outdoors for various reasons, but just fucking β¦ look around you when youβre outside. Notice the sky and the sun and the birds and creatures. Start caring about them. Iβm begging you.
personally i think dromaeosaurids would love humans. yes little beast we are also social pack hunters cmon lets go catch small rodents together and then snuggle in my bed afterwards

but ykw at least i'm not on mount everest. at least i'm not paying tens of thousands of dollars to slowly suffocate in a 300-person line at the gates of hell. never in my life will i have to be steered in a hypoxic stupor through the maze of poop and corpses atop mount everest. on this earth a lot of horrible things can happen to you without your permission but there are a few that you have to opt into. you can just say no thanks! and be guaranteed never to have to be on mount everest. much to be grateful for actually
The other day, my neighborhood made an announcement to facebook that there is a red-tailed hawk living here and that we need to be careful about our pets. Realistically, dogs are far too big for a hawk to be able to pick up, much less target for a meal. And outdoor cats are more likely to die via a car accident or illness rather than a bird of prey. Which even then, your cat shouldn't be outside to begin with. Stop blaming wildlife for something you can prevent!
Edit (10/1): I actually managed to see this supposed red-tail in the neighborhood, and it wasnβt even a red-tail. Itβs a red-shouldered hawk :/
The northern harriers are back in the arrear right now, and I had the pleasure of watching this pairrier hunting and finally getting some decent shots of them. The male is the grey one, the female is the brown. Some of my favorite birds to watch!
