I really hate how downplayed Hermione's pain is. After her torture nobody talk about it again, like hello??? She was CARVED, it's not realistic for her to just get over it without some trauma that would be shown. That's why I love it when fanfics really make her trauma a part of who she becomes (in post war fanfics). There is also the obliviation of her parents that isn't talked about in canon, well the movies atleast (which is understandable) but that's why I LOVE reading angsty fics where her parents have been obliviated far too strongly that it's too late to recover them. I think it adds something to Hermione that makes sense, she is overprotective and she is so scared for them, but she ends up losing them forever. I think it highlights what Hermione did wrong and that her strong traits can very well be flaws in certain contexts.
I recently started reading 'Bloody, Slutty and Pathetic', which is a Dramione fic, and I absolutely loved this:
"She had been so determined to keep them safe that she had lost them forever, so afraid of them experiencing pain that she had heaped a lifetime's worth upon herself."
