Some of you may know my dad as Taadow. Some of you may know him as DJ EZ Dicc from your favorite rap albums. Some of you may know him as Malvo from Everybody Hates Chris. Some of you may know him from his standup. I just know him as dad.

My dad, who used to read me stories & do all the voices I would request. My dad, who used to volunteer at my elementary school as the basketball coach. My dad, who despite lack of understanding of all of our interests, allowed my sister & I to be carefree black girls & fostered our creativity before I even knew that was a “thing”. My dad who watched Avatar the Last Airbender with me & who bought me the sixth Harry Potter book at midnight. My dad who came to plays, and recitals, and debates, and cheered on his nerd of a daughter like she was a sports star. I remember singing Stevie Wonder duets in the car when I was little & vibing out to the new Childish Gambino record just last week. It was literally just this morning, I kissed him goodbye as he was making breakfast–turkey bacon, egg whites, & waffles. I took a piece of bacon & rushed out the door, running late for work.

My dad suffered a diabetic stroke this time last year & I can honestly say that his passing now is so absolutely unexpected. We spent this whole year exercising & eaten at all the vegan spots I loved & working so hard with doctors to get his health back to normal. I’d like to think that all the love & laughter he had in his heart was just too much to take.

As his oldest daughter, I have absolutely no idea what the next step of all of this is and my grandmother is too distraught to help. I know it may seem odd to ask given his notoriety, but we are just a regular family, who are by no means wealthy, with regular bills & financial constraints, most bills still stemming from his medical issues last year. We are asking for help with his service & expenses.
