I think I’ve read it four times now. There’s something so tender about the way kidza and kidblade interact—it stayed with me.

And when Phil was brought home by Ian and had to say goodbye to Techno, I actually cried.

Techno was the kind of child who learned quickly but was timid and needed someone to guide him. Phil, on the other hand, was a typical "little adult."

Due to the circumstances at home, Phil had to grow up early. At times, Techno found Phil to be so mysterious that it felt unsettling—almost eerie. But just as those thoughts crept in, Phil’s kindness would always wash them away.

One day, missionaries came to Techno’s home. However, merchants rarely had an interest in religion, so his family politely declined. Unexpectedly, the missionaries' expressions darkened, and they began condemning Techno’s family as heretics. Behind them stood Phil, silent but present—because those missionaries were his family.

It was then that Techno learned the truth: Phil’s faith was built upon flesh and blood. Many despised their beliefs, viewing them as nothing more than a cult—devoted to forbidden scriptures and the supreme deity, Ender King.

By the time they entered elementary school, Techno started noticing strange wounds and bruises on Phil. Every time he asked, Phil would brush it off with an excuse. Though Techno never got a real answer, deep down, he had already guessed what was happening in Phil’s home.

As a child, there wasn’t much Techno could do. The most he could offer was an open invitation for Phil to stay over or a listening ear whenever Phil needed to vent. But as the days passed, Techno began to notice something even stranger—glimmering violet crystals growing from Phil’s skin, and words leaving his lips that made no sense.

Eventually, as they grew older, their paths split. Techno had to focus on inheriting the family business, while Phil, inevitably, took his rightful place as the High Priest of his order.

Years passed before they met again. Techno had expected Phil to be in even worse shape—but the reality was the opposite. Phil looked... radiant. Strangely energetic. And above all, he was kind. Unnervingly kind.
