thinking about emerald "i don't wanna talk to people" duo. Phil who volunteers for an expedition to the Antarctic or a similarly desolate landscape a la Richard Byrd vs Techno who's the 24/7 comms guy there to make sure Phil isn't dead yet (and gets to spend a good chunk of his time at night on a quiet outpost when everyone else is gone). Phil who is surprised that whoever the fuck's on the line at 4 in the morning is surprisingly good at diagnosing whatever went wrong with his readouts. Techno just wants to know how the hell he managed to fuck that thing up so badly in like, a week. those are supposed to be built like a brick and do one (1) thing to boot how did you MANAGE that?????
