Hey everyone, so you know organizations like UNICEF and whatnot that allow you to buy the kind of gifts where you donate mosquito nets or something in a personās name?Ā Well a lot of those organizations will let you donate vaccines, as it turns out.Ā Like, right now on UNICEFās site, providing 100 polio vaccines to kids in need is 19 USD.Ā And Iām not saying you should buy it and then send a card to an anti-vax relative saying youāve provided lifesaving vaccinations in their name, but actually thatās exactly what Iām saying
If youāre not noticed, youāre still valid.
Like, if no ones gonna read it, you should still write it.
If no ones gonna see it, you should still do it.
If no ones gonna hear you, you should still say it.
Youāre not measured by how people react to you.
Youāre not measured by how people react to you.
My face is having uncontrollable spasms. Great. It hurts really, really, really bad.
I think part of why I have trouble explaining pain to the doctor is when they ask about the pain scale I always think āWell, if someone threw me down a flight of stairs right now or punched me a few times, it would definitely hurt a lot moreā so I end up saying a low number. I was reading an article that said that ā10ā is the most commonly reported number and that is baffling to me. When I woke up from surgery with an 8" incision in my body and I could hardly even speak, I was in the most horrific pain of my life but I said ā6ā because I thought āWell, if you hit me in the stomach, it would be worse.ā
I searched and searched for the post this graphic was from, and the OP deactivated, but I kept the graphic, because my BFF does the same thing, uses her imagination to come up with the worst pain she can imagine and pegs herĀ ā10ā³ there, and so is like, well, Iām conscious, so this must be a 5, and then the doctors donāt take her seriously. (And she then does things like driving herself to the hospital while in the process of giving birth. Probably should have called an ambulance for that one!)
So I found this and sent it to her. Because this is what they want to know: how badly is this pain affecting you? Not on a scale ofĀ ānothingā toĀ āhow Iād imagine itād feel if bears were eating my still-living guts while I was on fireā.Ā
I hate reposting stuff, but Iāll never find that post again and OP is deactivated, so, hereās a repost. I can delete this later, i just wanted to get it to you and I canāt embed images in a chat or an ask.Ā
This is possibly why it took several weeks to diagnose my fractured spine.
Pain Scale transcription:
10 - I am in bed and I canāt move due to my pain. I need someone to take me to the emergency room because of my pain.
9 - My pain is all that I can think about. I can barely move or talk because of my pain.
8 - My pain is so severe that it is difficult to think of anything else. Talking and listening are difficult.
7 - I am in pain all the time. It keeps me from doing most activities.
6 - I think about my pain all of the time. I give up many activities because of my pain.
5 - I think about my pain most of the time. I cannot do some of the activities I need to do each day because of the pain.
4 - I am constantly aware of my pain but can continue most activities.
3 - My pain bothers me but I can ignore it most of the time.
2 - I have a low level of pain. I am aware of my pain only when I pay attention to it.
1 - My pain is hardly noticeable.
0 - I have no pain.
Itās also really important to get this kind of scale to people who have chronic pain, because chronic pain drastically lowers your perception of howĀ ābadā any kind of pain actually is, and yet something like this pain scale is extremely user friendly.Ā
For example, if someone asked me how much pain Iām in at any given time, Iād say hardly any, and yet Iām apparently at a chronic 2.5, and it only goes up from there depending on the day.Ā
Thereās also a similarly usefulĀ āFatigue Scaleā
I havenāt been below a 5 on this scale for 4 yearsĀ
Hereās the fatigue scale

Summer means poor children are not getting 2 free meals a day at school so if youāre able, please consider donating to your local food bank.
Until September 2nd, if youāre under 18, you can receive free lunch at public library branches in NYC (proof of age shouldnāt be required), and from trucks at certain locations around the city. Some schools should be open and providing them, too!!
This is so helpful for anyone that needs it!
here is a website where you can find similar programs based on yourĀ location.

100% correct medical information on tumblr for once; also consider calling 911 if you donāt know how often the person has seizures and ESPECIALLY if the seizure has lasted 5 minutes or more (which is why the watch is critical)
I have epilepsy so making sure the word is out on how to help people who do have seizures means a lot to me.
Oh my god, accurate epilepsy information. I am so happy, you have no idea.
Another good tip is to check their neck, ankles, or wrists! People prone to seizures typically carry and identifier thats there to say āThis is something that happens, its not extreme.ā In this case, unless the seizure lasts more than 5min, you do not need to call an ambulance as this may get them in financial issues!
If you can/if applicable, open their collar to make it less restrictive
A small percentage of people may lose continence during their seizure - if youāve got something to cover their lower half to lessen possible upset upon waking, do that too.
Some people may have limbs that lock or even dislocate (more likely if thereās an additional disability at play) during the seizure. Do not attempt to manipulate them back in yourself!! I put my own jaw back into place in a panic when I regained conciousness one time and had to eat mushy soft foods for a fortnight :/
Also check in their wallet for a card with details on - some people carry an emergency card instead of medical ID bracelet!
Sometimes you fall off the wagon for months. Sometimes you tell yourself youāre gonna start fresh on Monday and by Wednesday youāve already fallen back off. Sometimes you have to restart a 100 times and itās frustrating. But it will be okay. You can do this. One day at a time

I have bipolar mood disorder and I get worried that Iām too reliant on my medication especially if the dosage goes up
Then I realized
NEUROTYPICAL PEOPLE ARE JUST AS RELIANT on the neurochemicals in my medication, itās just that their bodies produce it and mine doesnāt, itās not that Iām a bad person and idk this realization seems to have really helped me understand and not feel so bad about it?
Exactly!
#if you canāt make your own neurotransmitters storebought is fineĀ Ā

I can't express how much I love this
I know we discussed this ages ago, but I canāt remember exactly what was said and Iāve gained so many followers since then (more input now)
so, I have an appointment with my psychiatrist on Monday and I want to tell her about symptoms she doesnāt know about and the possibility of my bipolar 2 being a misdiagnosis
but I get nervous and shy about this stuff with professionals and adults
what do I do? how can I successfully tell her how Iām feeling and what I experience?
I write down bullet points on a piece of paper, and then hand them the paper at the beginning of the appointment. Sometimes I label the note āthings to talk aboutā and hand it to them without saying anything, other times I say those are things I donāt want to forget. I find it easier because they end up starting the conversation.
From the info you gave, I would write:
symptom 1
symptom 2 (etc)
(Draw a line - it didn't show when I did that on here)
bipolar misdiagnosis?
- reasons for thinking this
- possible diagnosis, with reasons if they aren't already known
Iāve had some bad doctors, but none of them have had a problem with this method :)
