‘ oh, trinket, darling, leave them alone, won’t you ? ’ it appears that no, vex’ahlia’s pet newfie will certainly not be leaving the other person on the sidewalk alone and will instead be bounding over to the person in question. in fact, vex is pretty much unceremoniously dragged down the street to meet them. he mostly seems interested in sniffing around the other person and wanting to be pet, but she still looks mortified. ‘ trinket ! sit ! ’ this he does do. the dog looks as pleased with himself as he possibly can. ‘ i’m so sorry. i know he’s huge but i promise that he is really very friendly. ’

“Hello,” he said automatically, as a shadow fell over him. “Am I in the way? I’ll just be a few more minutes.” With a surgeon’s skill, he whittled off the last bit of wood on his carving, before looking up. “Making your own ornaments sounds intimidating, but it really isn’t as hard as it looks.”

“i’ve never been quite sure of the fanciful coffees and teas, but this toasted marshmallow is addicting.“ he stated to no one in particular, glancing about as he took a sip from his drink, smiling at whoever’s eyes he caught. “i’m not sure i can even move on to try the other flavors… but i’m determined to at least finish a menu at one of the establishments in town.” when he finally settled on someone he continued to speak to them, giving a nod in greeting before turning to address the snowmen being built. “that looks like fun, would you care to join me? i am a handyman by trade, so i’m more than my looks and personality.” thor paused and then flashed them a dazzling smile. “so some say.”

“of course not!“ alexander’s tone was heightened with authority and definition. the other, standing within the cafe across from him - daringly challenging him but learning soon that the professor would not back down so easily. when the other left, alexander relaxed his shoulders and steadied himself before turning to retreat back to his table, pausing only so when he realized someone else had come up during the commotion. “my apologies - sometimes my love for debate tends to get ahead of myself, or ahead of those wishing to engage in the conversation.” he paused, taking his new conversational companion in, “and i am not without my shame of turning an establishment into a mockery, so would you mind if i bought you something? a drink? pastry? anything to show an apology for my crass interruption.”

“if you see corinne,” bryce said, “please don’t tell her i was eating at the counter.” she put down her fork and wiped her mouth on the back of her hand – better there than on her dress. anyway, it was corinne’s fault; it’s not like there was anyone who could take over while bryce stepped away from work to eat. not that anyone in town was likely to come in looking for anything in the back of the shop; she often wondered if corinne realized what it meant to be in a town. “anyway…” she cleared her throat and stood up straight. “welcome to willow street, where we carry kansas’ most charming collection of antiques and artifacts. my name is bryce quinlan and i would be happy to help you in every way.” she recited the greeting exactly as she had been trained to, doing her best not to sound robotic, hoping instead she didn’t sound downright sardonic. 

“oh, really!” evie could no longer contain her frustration – she was just on the brink of banging the bloody thing against the counter as a last resort; the only thing stopping her was knowing that if she hadn’t broken it already, she would surely break it then. “i repel technology, and i have no idea why we must use it for everything.” the gadget in her hand should have been able to look up any member of the library by their library card number, but she’d be damned if she could even get it turned on. finally, with a frustrated sigh, she gave up and put it aside. “i’ve always been more of a pen and paper kind of girl anyway. what can i do for you?”

“huh,“ rick huffed, rolling his shoulders back as he squinted off towards the front lawn of the courthouse and law offices. “well that’s different.” he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth before placing his hands onto his hips. to him, someone toppled a tree and then attempted to run it over. “i mean, it’s a government building so i can’t be mad, but i’m also the hired landscaper so i’m pretty damn mad.” he paused and turned to make sure whoever had walked up was still there and he wasn’t just talking to himself. “anyway, hope you enjoy the show while i try to figure this out.”

it wasn’t always this awkward for arthur to head into town - but because it was a weekend day and the farmers market was set up in the park, arthur had decided to set up his stall for the monthly visit he usually did. advertising horses to own and keep on his farm, horse riding, training, and even breeding - he was happy to sit and talk with anyone who might be interested. novice or expert - it didn’t rightly matter to him. “hi there, friend!” he stated, almost a little too chipper for a greeting - earnest as he was. “you wanna talk about horses?” he asked, mentally kicking himself for how much of an idiot he was sounding like. “or y’know anything else - i got a good idea about what’s good around here and what’s mediocre.”

“You know what they say…” Lucy speaks just loud enough for someone to hear here. Holding her cup close to her chest as she speaks, as if she’s afraid to drop it. “There’s always one soul who gets taken at these Halloween balls.” It’s hard to be ominous dressed in bright pink as Barbie but she tires anyways. Well… only for a couple of seconds at least. Soon she breaks into a grin, giving it away that it was all just some joke. “I’m just kidding.” The woman laughs, clearly amused by her own joke. “Did I get you? You believe me?” 

bonnie was pretty happy with her witch costume - enjoying the campiness of the holiday while also getting to thrive in the occult as much as she always wanted to. she’d taken a tour around the museum at least three times before deciding to occupy herself around the tricks and toys tables. “you know, it’s halloween and all but do we really need to give some people the excuse to pull tricks on each other?” she asked to whoever was closest to her, turning to smile at them and continue on as if they’d been engaged in a conversation for just as long. “i mean, i get it - i do, but man are some of these tricks going to be annoying if you’re on the receiving end.”

he moved to look closer at one of his works and then turned to look at them, “interested then? local artist and all that, might be able to cut you a very nice deal if you’re dedicated to having something unique as this above your fireplace to keep you warm on cool nights.”
