That’ll buff right out.
Tell me more about Hicklenton
One of Pat Mills’ most laudable traits, in my opinion, is his constant desire to seek out and nourish new artists with styles far from the beaten path. John Hicklenton was one such talent. Mills brought him in to draw books 8 and 9 of Nemesis the Warlock in the late 80s, and from there went on to draw several Judge Dredd stories, including Heavy Metal Dredd once Bisley left.
His style is… not for everyone. It’s heavily grotesque and often hard to follow, but when he shines, he really fucking shines. I’ll admit I didn’t like him at all in Dredd, but his Nemesis is all kinds of spectacular, especially coming off Talbot and Roach’s more solid, realistic books.
Sadly, Hicklenton was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and died in March 2010. Two years prior, the film “Here’s Johnny”, a documentary about his fight with MS, debuted to a pretty positive reaction. And the day before he died, he finished an independent graphic novel, “100 Months”. I haven’t gotten my hands on either, but what I’ve seen of the novel is pretty goddamn amazing. So if you’d like to see something violently different from almost everything else out there, give his work a look.
Flying Snake
The snake gets onto a high surface then propels itself by thrusting its body up and away from the high surface. It then sucks in its abdomen and flares its ribs to turn its body into a “pseudo concave wing.” It does all that while making a serpentine motion and wave-like motion to stabilize its direction in midair and land safely.

Israel’s occupation in the West Bank and the blockade of Gaza are the primary cause for Palestinian “humanitarian needs,” according to a UN report released Wednesday.
Published in English, Hebrew and Arabic by the Palestinian branch of the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the report — titled “Fragmented Lives” — bills itself as a “comprehensive overview of the underlying causes or drivers of the humanitarian vulnerabilities in the oPt [occupied Palestinian territory].”
The major cause, the report concludes, is Israel, with occupation policies and practices remaining the key reason for humanitarian needs in the Palestinian territories.
“At its heart, the crisis in the oPt is one of a lack of protection for Palestinian civilians,” said OCHA oPt head David Carden.
“From violence, from displacement, from restrictions on access to services and livelihoods, and from other rights violations – with a disproportionate impact on the most vulnerable, children in particular. While the trends vary from one year to the next, the pervasive lack of protection and accountability for violations of international law remains,” Carden said.
