I think Wendy is literally in her own world like as an adult she’ll offhandedly mention some certified South Park Bullshit™️ and whoever she’s talking to will be like what do you mean your elementary school cafeteria guy got brainwashed and joined a cult of pedos and died a gruesome death was that like… disturbing?? It had to be right??? And Wendy’s like idk i was really sad about the lack of self confidence among the girls I went to school with :(

Inconsistent and sometimes straight up bad writing makes wendy fun to rotate in your mind. She’s just Stan’s crush. She’s insanely possessive and has connections to terrorist groups. She’s the voice of reason. She’s completely insane. She’s fiercely defensive of the other girls when it comes to how the boys treat them. She doesn’t have much sympathy for Heidi when she’s stuck in a toxic relationship. She’s super confident. She’s not like other girls. She’s never confident enough to not conform. She’s clearly ridiculed for her academic talent because she is a girl. The fact that sexism is the motivating factor is never really addressed by anyone including her. She’s an audience surrogate. She’s just Stan’s girlfriend again.

I personally enjoy molding these contradictions into an actual complex and consistent character, particularly because at that age I WAS the smart girl who was always arguing with the guys and wasn’t like other girls and also was secretly insecure. She makes sense to ME she’s my character now. It’s kind of like how butters clearly always gravitates toward power but he’s probably just written like that because sometimes they need cartman to have a lackey. Wendy is maintaining an image by playing up certain aspects of herself to gain respect while also using aggression to discourage any personal attacks, but she’s written like that because they don’t know how to write women so she’s like three girls at once.
