maybe this is a testament to how much farming sims have changed since the genre went mainstream, but I've never thought of them as being about a peaceful, idyllic, easy life in the countryside tbh. to me they're about working very, very hard for a very long time for very little reward until you finally get to grips with everything and start making real progress - at which point yes you do get to enjoy the fruits of your labour but only after persevering through some very tough times. like how in Harvest Moon DS a storm can destroy your barn and kill your animals overnight so you have to either grind for better materials or learn to savescum. or maybe i was just bad at video games idk
