The Ratliffs being mixed but white passing is extremely interesting because to me this means they punch down at the black folk around them to distance themselves from their own heritage in order to align themselves with the white folk who punch down at them.

Bunnyās parents at the funeral were fascinating; the way his father acted like everything was just the fine half the time while spontaneously breaking down at seemingly random intervals vs his mom busying herself with the aesthetics of the funeral (not for bunnyās benefit mind u, but to make thier family look trendy and put together) and showing almost no visible signs of grief at all.
+ The way Mr Corcoran was trying so hard to ingratiate himself with Henry and preform knowing him well, cus he knew enough to know that Henry was an integral part of bunnyās life, and yet he knew Jack shit about Henry because, by extension, he didnāt rlly know his son all that well either.
Theyāre the only instances of family of the Greek class that we rlly get to see featured in the novel and it would be a missed opportunity not to consider bunnyās own behavior and traits in conjuncture with that of his family: a boisterous fake it till u make it attitude (at the expense of genuine expression/connection) from dad, emphasis on wealth and status over relationships from mom, and Iām sure thereās lots to be gleaned from his brothers and their children as well, though I canāt recollect well enough to point to anything specifically just now.
it's genuinely so sickening fr. and it's crazy too bcs during the conversation about the bacchanal, henry says "the corcorans would rather see him dead" than pay for the schooling they sent him off to, and to see how carelessly they handle his funeral is genuinely such a gut punch because he really isn't being dramatic whatsoever
looking in the mirror and seeing her brother, trying to grow her hair out so she looks less like him but it looks so wrong she chops it off again in a fit of rage
dialing his number then hanging up again, staring at the scar of the cigarette burn and reminding herself that it is not worth it, he is not worth it
going into the church one day where he found comfort and sitting at the back, watching the ghost of him at ten racing between the pews with her, all bright smiles and shy laughter before anything had gone wrong for him, for them
hearing someone in town confusedly call her by his name and flinching, turning around in shock as if he might be standing up the road, only to find the person looking right at her instead

I think the thing about Henry and Camilla is that they're neither the most wholesome couple ever nor the absolute most unhealthy one in the group, but they're in the same middle ground as most of the other relationships. They're very similar in character, share similar beliefs, are on par with each other in terms of wit and intelligence, and they clearly cared deeply for and found comfort in each other, but them being in love doesn't negate the fact that they're both flawed people and viceversa. And that's what makes it good! Camilla loving Henry but also saying that she's been going along with him specifically because he's the only one able to keep Charles at bay is interesting because it shows how she was just as calculating as him! Henry shooting himself in the head in front of her and scarring her for life even after trying to keep her safe the whole time is horrible but shows how Henry was always far too self-absorbed to ever put anyone else above himself!! They're good for each other and toxic and tragic and that's why they work
im sick and TIRED of the idea that something in history was okay cuz "people just thought differently back then!" im sorry, name any oppression or injustice happening in modern day, are people fine with it just cuz its happening? no matter how normalised something is, there is at least ONE person, at the minimum ONE person who is against in. humans arent a hivemind!!! people in history werent a hivemind!! there were people against those things, and there were people for those things!! morality has always been a debated subject since the beginning of time

hello all !! first off, thank you for the ask !! this was so fun, i'm so sorry it took so long. after much time and deliberation (and a full four hour sit-down session) i present to you all:
mostly every hozier song (i haven't added hozier's self-titled b-side songs on the special edition besides one, nor have i added blood on the snow yet bcs idk these songs well). these are gonna be ordered by character (i'm only doing core 6 for my sanity AND the rare few for julian) in no particular tiering, and some songs i do assign to multiple characters (not necessarily in a ship way either, though some are paired for their dynamic) !! i'd write a full dissertation if i went into why i chose each song so. if you are curious about any specific one, just ask me in the comments and i'll go into detail.
