I started these back in April for the pirate week but— ugh. Does it still count as being fashionably late if your fashion icon is an Edwardian boy who died in 1916?
...anyway, since I've spent so much time on them, there are some thoughts and headcanons regarding this au under the cut:
— yes, for once everybody is alive and fairly well, thank you very much;
— Charles drags his friends through his pirate phase when they're about 12 or so;
— and since his parents either can't or won't take him to the theme park, the gang does it for his birthday instead;
— the girls are obviously the masterminds here;
— Edwin is just required to dress appropriately and, as you can see, he fails miserably;
— initially, the girls have matching bandanas, but Crystal deems Edwin's outfit to be "not pirate-y enough" and lands him hers;
— they go on a treasure hunt, and when it turns out that friendship they gained along the way is their supposed-to-be greatest treasure, Crystal pulls the my-rich-and-famous-parents-will-ruin-your-business card;
— they get a flag, and a hat, and a couple of swords from the souvenir shop, so the park survives;
— everything goes to Charles as the birthday boy, although Crystal promptly steals the hat from him;
— she absolutely rocks it, so he doesn't mind;
— yes, they get one of the clues in the treasure hunt by singing a sea shanty;
— you can tell which one and only photo is not taken by one of the girls because people in it haven't finished posing yet;
— turns out it's really hard to draw people fencing if they have different dominant hands;
— there was supposed to be one picture with wet-and-upset Charles who had an accident in the pool but I decided to keep it lighthearted and happy just this once;
— you can't see it, but Edwin in the stocks is actually kneeling on Charles' vest because his trousers are too ✨pristine✨ for this mortal earth;
— and yes, I just wanted to draw Edwin wearing saddle shoes, that's it, that's the whole reason behind all of this.
At this point it's really awkward to tag, but thanks to @dbdahauntevents for the inspiration and prompts, they were a lot of fun to work on!

“I don’t have to turn you,” Monty says, looking right into Edwin’s eyes. “I can leave, right now.”
“But you will not,” Edwin says, and he says it like it’s a fact- not a fact as in an order, as in you won’t because I’ll stop you, but rather because Edwin knows that Monty would never leave him and Charles, because Monty is as weak to their hunger as they are. “Yes, I could have Charles turn me, but…”
“I want it to be both of you, Monty,” Edwin says, “I want this because I want to be with you two. Close with you two. I would rather be the same as you than not with you at all.”
Edwin lets go of one of Monty’s hands in order to place a finger beneath Monty’s chin, tilting it up so that he’s forced to look Edwin right in the eye.
“You matter, Monty,” Edwin says, “This is all that matters.”

Excerpt:
Before he could get more than his toes on the cold floor (whoever had dressed him in a t-shirt and joggers hadn’t thought to bring him socks), the door opened and in walked the very person he was looking for. Relief flooded Edwin and he tried to leap to his feet to rush towards him. But Charles was quicker and he was by Edwin’s side in an instant. Edwin smiled, looked up at him, and froze.
Charles looked exactly as he had before the explosion. Pretty eyes, cropped hair, dangling earring, bright smile, leather jacket. But now, on his temple, was a metal circle with flashing lights. Stunned, Edwin lifted his hands to Charles’s face and Charles quietly let him cup Charles’s cheeks. Slowly, Edwin moved him to and fro, but his eyes seemed normal and Charles leaned into his touch as if he could actually feel the warmth in Edwin’s hands.
“What happened?” Edwin whispered.
Still smiling, Charles said, “We nearly died. Do you remember?”
“Yes. The battle. The robots…”
“Yeah.” Charles nodded. He reached up to curl his fingers around Edwin’s hands. “After that, they tried to save you, but something about the medication or an infection nearly killed you. So they put you in a cryogenic tube. They said they’d wake you up later. But I was closer to the bomb.”
“Oh, Charles,” said Edwin, his eyes filling with tears. “What did you do?”
