Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-‘Uthaymeen (رحمه الله) said:

There are times I really miss my old ‘better connection with God’ days. I used to pray for long after every salah, five times a day. Whenever I had some difficulties with anything, used to pray tahajjud for a few days and ask Him to make things easy. I am not saying I don’t pray anymore. But probably my heart was more alive. And there are times when you just cannot go back to that connection, it’s just hard.

I think this is what was indicated when said about fluctuations of Iman... The feeling we realise we aren't at the peak like we used, is a Gift in itself.. We remember the days we were closer, better...

هل للحب رائحة؟ نعم هو ذاك العبق الذي وجده سيدنا يعقوب في قميص يوسف فارتد إليه بصره
