Accidentally In Love

Maybe it won’t work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.

My eyes aren’t mysterious and I won’t lure you in with my quiet words. I laugh a little too loud and enjoy Friday nights at home alone. I prefer not to show a lot of skin and I’m far from promiscuous. I like my lemonade without the vodka and my hair isn’t always perfectly shaped. I’m not a riot. I’m not rebellious. But I promise to love you with what all that I am. I’ll take you to the park where we can walk through the woods and push each other on the swings like we were 7 years old again. We can go out to eat and blow straw wrappers at each other and laugh until we can’t feel our cheeks. I’ll hold your hand in the car and sing you my favorite song, off key and on repeat. I’ll laugh at all of your jokes, even the ones I don’t understand. I’ll make your heart light and young again. And I’ll be, for you, the best that I can.

Friends don’t act like we do. They act 75% like us, but there’s something more between us. Something that is too strong for a friendship. Something that would be between two lovers. Now am I imagining this or am I right. Friendship just isn’t enough for me.

Most girls say they want a fairy tale, but that’s not what I want. I want someone who will make fun of me and laugh at my jokes even if they’re stupid. Someone who will wrestle with me and not let me win because I’m a girl. Yeah, riding off into the sunset would be nice, but playing thumb war with you seems so much better.

If you meet somebody and your heart pounds, your hands shake, your knees go weak, that’s not the one. When you meet your ‘soul mate’ you’ll feel calm. No anxiety, no agitation.

The best portion of your life will be the small, nameless moments you spend smiling with someone who matters to you.

Maybe that’s what it all comes down to. Love, not as a surge of passion, but as a choice to commit to something, someone, no matter what obstacles or temptations stand in the way. And maybe making that choice, again and again, day in and day out, year after year, says more about love than never having a choice to make at all.

You have a place in my heart no one else ever could have.

And maybe that was love. Being so vulnerable and allowing someone else in so far they could hurt you, but they also give you everything.

Be with the one who makes you forget how terrified you are of falling in love.

Find someone who loves you well. Someone who never belittles you. Even in the heat of an argument. Someone who is gentle with you, but does not treat you like you are fragile. Someone who knows what you are capable of, and celebrates those pieces of you. Not someone who is intimidated by your strength. Someone who doesn’t make you feel guilty for being flawed. It is not love’s job to punish you. And remember the person you love is just as broken as you are when they fall short. No one is perfect – do not hold them to this standard. Find someone who is patient, forgiving, and apologetic. Someone who practices forgiveness freely and often. Love someone who is humble, kind, and empathetic. Not only with you, but with a beggar on the street, or a stranger in the supermarket. Common courtesy is important. Compassion is important. Kindness is important.

I shouldn’t have to be a liar to make someone love me. I shouldn’t be so afraid of losing someone that I’ll do anything to make them stay.

To fall in love with someone’s thoughts - the most intimate, splendid romance.

I think it’s hard for you to fall in love because you like control, and you can’t control what another person does or feels, so you keep all your cards.

I can’t think of any greater happiness than to be with you all the time…
