Years ago I sent an ask about art school after seeing Technical Dave as a highschool graduate. I had eventually followed advice from other people and went to school for IT & hated it while simultaneously having a meltdown about other things in my life. Now I've gone back to art school to work my way into a communication arts program and am currently in the top of my program and I just wanted to say thank you for making Technical Dave. Your series has been uplifting during my fight with art among other things and has been a reminder to be more patient with myself and art as well as the process of obtaining my degree and working freelance in the time being.

Hello! I'm still alive! I have a wife and two wonderful kids now, but as you can imagine, it takes up a lot of my time. This is incomplete information. No one in the printing industry is complaining Abode owns colours on a screen, because screen values are irrelevant in print. They're complaining that they can't assign swatch values in an Adobe product that a press will understand.
Yes, CMYK presses are programmed to know pantone colours exist, and will attempt to colour-correct files to match the Pantone values, making colours much more vibrant than you can manage messing around with the CMYK values.
It’s all fine and well to say “This isn’t as bad as you might think, cause no one OWNS colours, man” but now printers have to pay extra money to Pantone to get software to enable a feature they used to get for free.
Source: Me, a professional digital press operator and pre-pressman who has to colour-match to pantones every day.
