Ἥφαιστον κλυτόμητιν ἀείσεο, Μοῦσα λίγεια, ὃς μετ᾽ Ἀθηναίης γλαυκώπιδος ἀγλαὰ ἔργα ἀνθρώπους ἐδίδαξεν ἐπὶ χθονός, οἳ τὸ πάρος περ ἄντροις ναιετάασκον ἐν οὔρεσιν, ἠύτε θῆρες. νῦν δὲ δι᾽ Ἥφαιστον κλυτοτέχνην ἔργα δαέντες ῥηιδίως αἰῶνα τελεσφόρον εἰς ἐνιαυτὸν εὔκηλοι διάγουσιν ἐνὶ σφετέροισι δόμοισιν. ἀλλ᾽ ἵληθ᾽, Ἥφαιστε: δίδου δ᾽ ἀρετήν τε καὶ ὄλβον. - O treble-voiced Muse, sing of Hephaestus of glorious invention, who with pale-eyed Athena taught brilliant works to mortals on earth, who formerly lived in mountain caves, like wild beasts. But now, comprehending crafts because of splendid-skilled Hephaestus, to the end of each year they easily live out their days, carefree, in their own houses. Be gracious, Hephaestus! Grant excellence and good fortune.
