Dustin Bates is the Coolest in this Place

That day when senpai notices you SO HARD, he literally sweeps you off your feet. xD

This is real life. This actually happened! I met Starset at the Table Rocks Music Festival in Central Point, OR on 8/27. I did VIP and gave Dustin a long, heartfelt letter I wrote him about what Starset and their music has meant to me. I also brought the guys all orange Tic Tacs (I gave Ron one of the XL packs) and chocolate bars.

During their actual demonstration, Starset played Transmissions in its entirety! Throughout the show, Dustin made eye contact with me and my friend Hailey. We were front and center. At the end, during “My Demons,” when he jumps down off the stage and interacts with the crowd, he came down, came over almost as if he was looking for me, and raised his hand. When I went to high-five him, he held my hand for a second, while we both shouted/sang, “We are one and the same…” I didn’t see him grab anyone else’s hand around me either. It was so cool! And someone actually caught it on video! (x) Bless her! I’m the one with the greenish paisley phone case and sunglasses on Dustin’s right when he climbs up on the barricade. Hailey is directly in front of/below him at that point.

After the demonstration, I got my copy of The PROX Transmissions and my VIP badge signed, and Dustin let me know he read my letter and gave me some encouraging words regarding my driving struggles. He said he thinks I can get my license before the end of this year. :) I told him I’d use Starset as motivation by setting a goal to drive myself to their next Oregon show. He liked the idea. I can’t even tell you how uplifting it was to hear Dustin Bates say he believes in me like that. I hope I can make him proud.

Later, after their signing, the Starset guys were posing for pictures with fans. I saw one guy do a photo where the Starset guys held him up horizontally and decided I wanted a shot like that. It can never hurt to ask. When I asked Dustin and the guys, Dustin happily agreed. I went to take my backpack off to set it aside, but before I could, or even realized what was happening, Dustin had literally swept me off my feet and scooped me up bridal style. I really hope I didn’t kick Ron in the head as my legs swung up, lol.
