“Now, these are just some- formal questions for your intake at this facility, to gather more information about you and your.. abilities. Please do try to answer these. I’d rather not have to.. encourage you.”

*the doctor held up a remote that seemed to have a few buttons on it, what it was for, was unknown to dark. But it seemed to be some sort of threat to persuade him into answering.*

“So- Test subject 003, how did you acquire these.. abilities. To manipulate the shadows of your containment. Did you obtain them later in life or were you perhaps born with them?”

“Please answer the question Test Subject 003, I do not want to have to take action again.”

*he glanced away a bit as the man writhed in pain for a moment, before looking back to his clipboard and writing down a few more things*

“At what point in life did you obtain these abilities, please describe in detail how you got them or if you were born with said abilities. I will not ask again.”

“Interesting. Now, you said that you died and were, well- reborn. Do you remember how exactly you died? Or rather what was the cause of your death. In detail, please.”

The man blinks in confusion- clearly taken aback by Dark’s words.

“Excuse me? I certainly beg your pardon- not even a hello?”

He reached into his coat and pulls out a newspaper and thwacks him on the head with it.

“Perhaps you should learn better manners sir, biting someone isn’t exactly a good hello”

Having limped himself into the manor late at night, Illinois looked at the stairs with dark, sleep deprived eyes, and instead went to go drag himself and his bags to the couch. Truthfully, he would’ve just collapsed onto the stairs, or the floor, but he didn’t want to worry his lovers. In his eyes, this was a good enough compromise, and as soon as he had draped himself over the couch, he was out.

The next morning when Dark came down, he would see a pile of brown luggage and Illinois’ satchel at the foot of the couch. On the couch itself, there was Illinois. He was still in his self appointed work uniform, the tan shirt covered in dark brown stains, boots on, and hat resting over his face, blocking it from view. Long black hair was scattered around it, twigs and thorns poking out. An beetle was crawling along, near his shoulder, yet he didn’t react.

So, when he stumbled into the living room just after dawn, stretching, dressed only in loose sweatpants, he froze at the sight of Illinois on the couch. Illinois....didn’t look good, to say the least, and of course the dogs immediately zeroed in on their fourth owner as well. Whimby started to let out little ‘boofs’ of greeting, but Dark was quick to counter that, whispering for them to hush, corralling the four of them with his aura and ushering them into the kitchen and out the back door to run around in the grounds for a bit while he made breakfast. That was his plan, to let Illinois sleep as long as he needed before Yancy’s loudness made it impossible to sleep in further, but...
