If anyone is wondering where we are on a scale of 1 to fucked, Weird Al Yankovic just did a full cover of Rage Against the Machine - Killing In the Name
In this man's 46 year long career, through everything, he has NEVER spoken about politics. He has NEVER spoken harshly to anyone. He has NEVER performed songs with heavy swearing or forceful lyrics. This man guest starred on My Little Pony as "Cheese Sandwich," the only other party pony as fun as Pinkie Pie!
When THIS man stops laughing, we are in trouble.
Seeing Weird Al screaming "FUCK YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME" with his whole chest, zero comedy, really is like seeing the nicest person you know finally snap because everything around him is so fucked up and horrible. I've always respected Weird Al as an artist and as a person, and this has only upped my respect for him.
^This exactly!^
Weird Al has done some political commentary, but I think it was less obvious before. I remember when Alpocalypse came out, and that felt like the first time I really started hearing the politics in his work. "Party in the CIA" felt like a pretty sharp criticism of American intervention.
Off Straight Outta Lynwood, "Don't Download This Song" is him being sarcastic and to underscore that, he released the song for free. Looking back through his earlier albums, he doesn't seem as overtly political. Straight Outta Lynwood was released in 2006 which is about when our culture really started turning on the Iraq War. There's still a lot going on but I remember by that time, it got more acceptable to criticize the war and the money being spent on it. Better yet, "I'll Sue Ya" is already a style parody of RATM; he's already quite comfortable with this.
Aside from a lot of other good things, I think this is a reminder that Weird Al is a serious artist with a point of view and something to say.
Vaati the Wind Mage, my dearly beloved since 2007 This is the fourth cosplay Iâve made of him throughout the years and Iâm pretty proud of this one. Thank you mnmdash for the pictures
i have a idea and it's not leaving my brain
may be coming back to competition
New project is in design and planning stages - being generous, saying this may take me a year. I don't want to rush to get this done so no con planned to debut it yet
ive been out of it for so long Im not even sure what cons are around and I dont want to stress about a deadline
what is it? you'll see
When you find out...
that your Vaati cosplay is the first result on image searches when you type in âVaati cosplayâ like wow holy shit...

Job obtained
Which means FUUUUUNDING~
I started something new
Iâm still broke and jobless, BUT IS THAT STOPPING ME? Not at all apparently. I havenât been this motivated to do a thing in a while. Maybe I can put it to finish Kagero while I wait for more mons to do this next one. What is the next one? Iâll keep it secret for now. :p Iâll update further as I go along.
A Serious Topic
I know itâs been a seriously long time since Iâve updated this blog. Itâs what happens when youâre broke and unmotivated and your life feels like a dumpster fire. But recent events occurred in the real world that I feel need to be addressed, because it personally means a lot to me.
On Tuesday, November 21, 2017, Nobuhiro Watsuki, the creator of Rurouni Kenshin, was arrested for possession of child pornography.
This is a big deal to me. Iâve made no secret, in both my cosplay and real life, that Rurouni Kenshin has had an enormous impact on my life. If not for this series, I likely never wouldâve never made it to this point in my life today, an Asian Studies graduate student with a focus on Japanese. This series was life-changing to me, and to this day I strive to be a person like Kenshin. Because Kenshin is a good person. He is possibly one of the best persons that anyone could hope to be like. He is a man that suffered post-traumatic growth, and yes, he still has his flaws, but he constantly tries to be a better person. To me, Kenshin is a role model. And to that extent, Watsuki was my own role-model. I looked up to this man as an artist and an inspiration for creating such a wonderful story.
But everyone has their dirty secrets, apparently. However, Watsuki is not like his character, Kenshin. Kenshin did terrible things in a war and fought for a cause he believed in, and when that war was over he gave up killing and strove to become a person that would use his strength to help others without killing. Watsuki, though? No. You can never ever excuse anyone for finding children sexually attractive.
Rurouni Kenshin will still always have a place in my heart - nothing will ever change that. I will never stop loving this show, and I love it so much that I can separate it from its creator. After all, if we were all to associate creations with their creators, then the Flight of the Valkyries wouldnât be nearly so popular as it is today, because Wilhem Richard Wagner was a turd of a human being. And I hope and pray that Watsuki never acted upon those disgusting tastes of his with a real young girl.
That said, separate the creator from the creation I may do, but in no way should anyone ever try to condone his tastes or make excuses for his behavior. Child pornography, sexualizing children, child abuse should never ever be âokayâ with anyone. In lieu of all the sex scandals going on worldwide, I ask that everyone be aware, and listen to what people have to say when it comes to things like this. If a child needs help, please listen to them. It may not be so obvious, but donât overlook strange behaviors, recognize cries for help. And never make any excuses for the adults that do these things.
Hereâs a âlife-hackâ for you. Apparently concentrated Kool-Aid can be used as a pretty effective leather dye. I was making a drink while cutting the snaps off some new straps for my pauldrons and I got curious, so I tried it, thinking, âok even if this works, it will just wash out.â Nope. It took the âdyeâ (undiluted) in about 3 seconds. After drying for about an hour and a half, it would not wash off in the hottest tap-water. It would not wash out after soaking for 30 minutes. It did not wash out until I BOILED it, and even then, only by a tiny bit and it gave it a weathered look that was kind of cool. Add some waterproofing and Iâd wager it would survive even that. That rich red is only one application too. Plus it smells great, lol. So there you go, cheap, fruity smelling leather dye in all the colors Kool-Aid has to offer.
WELL THEN!
this may be important to some of my followers *and certainly not just getting reblogged because of my costuming and my boyfriends desire for leather armor*
When I was in middle school we used to use it to dye our hair. Potent stuff.
If youâre dying anything with kool-aid itâs best to use SUGAR-FREE ones otherwise the thing youâre dying might get all sticky
*sweeps dust off of blog*
Erm... Sorry about the inactivity? There are several reasons for the deadness on here, none of which I really feel like getting into at the moment. Lack of funds is a huuuuge part of it, but there are some other factors as well. Whatever the case, Iâm going to try and get back to this. Hopefully, Iâll have something to show by June.

Yuri!!! on Ice (ăŚăźăŞ!!! on ICE)
An interview along with original costume concept designs by Chacott were included in the December issue of PASH! Magazine (Amazon US | eBay), focusing on the skating costumes from the Grand Prix series arc.Â
Sorry for the delay! It ends up, I couldnât find my pattern. orz On the bright side, I remember the basic shapes and how the pattern looked like. Obviously, this is not to scale nor is it accurate, but itâs the basic shapes I used for Kagero!
So above is what the basic pattern looks like, the bottom pic Iâve shown before, but itâs just a comparison to how it all looks together. My god this top is terrible tho I need to remake it one day, with the same pattern tho, this works, but I know I could make it look cleaner.
Hi there! saw your kagero cosplay stuffs & its really helping me with her outfit! Im thinkin on cosplaying her for my comicon in my country, may i ask, how do you make that ya know that curve on the chest for boobs for the top & can i use your base??
My goodness, Kageroâs getting a lot of attention lately! I should probably finish the costume soon orz
As for how to get the boob curve: darts! When it comes to Kageroâs outfit, darts are your friends! Typical kimono construction does not allow for the form fitted outfit she has, so the closest way to get to her look, Iâve found, is using darts to allow the bodice to fit properly!
Unfortunately, my base isnât really usable for anyone unless you have my exact proportions. My great aunt actually custom made for me a pattern for Corrin/Kamui, and I simply found I could use the same base for Kagero. I know little of how to resize patterns properly, and I know I also did a lot of editing on the fly from the pattern. Sorry!
However, while I canât upload the pattern, I can at least show you what it looks like so hopefully it can help you make your own! I canât do it right now in this ask, but check my blog in a few days and I should have pictures of the base pattern uploaded!
Completed the Beruka doll first! And that was only because it got bumped to priority cause I was getting paid for it! All the black and black is kind of hard to tell, but she does have some armor detail. Her main body and arms are the only things that arenât completely hand sewn, as her main body isnât made from felt. Everything else though, all done by hand. :3
I do, in fact, sell these (PM if interested). Theyâre made to order, and are mostly all completely hand sewn. The going rate is around $50 for Hoshido styled dolls, $70 for Conquest styled dolls (they have a looooot more armor detail).
Thank you!!! Just to clear my confusion, the finished wrap will have the outer corners of the rectangle meeting together at a point on both sides to get that gathered look right? And should I sew the bias tape to the edges first before pleating or afterwards?
Yes, and yes! Sorry I couldnât word that better. owo;; But yeah, you definitely want to sew the outer bias tape onto the edges before pleating - it makes things a heck of a lot easier to sew, because sewing bias on curves is awful. If youâre using bias for the waistband, remember thatâs one of the last steps! Good luck!

hello! im doing my own kagero cosplay and your blog has been very helpful! i am stumped on the booty wrap tho and i just dont know how to pattern it :/ can you help out? yours looks great!
Oh thank you, @ts0ni, Iâll try to do my best to try and explain, I didnât really use a pattern, and it was actually trial and error and that I was lucky to have a lot of extra fabric. owo; Youâll need you main fabric, lining (if youâre using), and bias tape (or whatever youâre using for the edges of her outfit). 1- What I did was get my main fabric and wrap it around my waist. I made sure to put a pin to mark where to cut for the length. Youâll want it long enough to over your butt, obviously, but because of the way my method works⌠well, youâll want to put a few more inches past your butt, maybe 2 or 3 past. I didnât give the width much thought, but donât do what I did! Youâll want to make the width measurement your waist measurement plus at LEAST 5 to 7 inches. It seems like a lot, but youâll need them so that when you wrap it around you, it overlaps. This method of doing it has a habit of hiking up so that it hugs your waist and tilts a bit (see visual aids below!) If you have lining, add around a half inch on all edges so you can sew it together without compromising size. Youâll also want to cut the same shape in lining.
2- Once you have your rectangle, what youâre going to do now is sew together the main fabric and lining (if youâre using). Do not sew the top edges! If thereâs not lining, just ignore this. Press/Iron your fabric as needed.3- For the edges, youâll want your bias tape. Now is the time to sew it onto the bottom of your rectangle.Â
4- Now hereâs where we start making the curves, What youâre going to do is lay your fabric on a flat surface and then carefully start placing pins to pleat the side sides upwards. Youâll want to pleat them as high as they can go, because you will be sewing a âwaistbandâ onto your booty wrap. Do not pleat your biased edges! Or do, but that might make it reeeeeally hard to sew depending on your machine. Once everything it curved up the top, sew all along the top edge of your wrap.
5- All you need to do now is add your waist band - I just used more bias tape for this. Make sure the pleated top parts are âeaten upâ completely by whatever youâre using for your waistband.
6- And the last step is your closures! I used snaps. Careful, if you followed the instructions I gave, youâll have to make sure your placements are precise because of how the overlap comes in at a V shape. My recommendation: get bigger sized snaps, and to keep them in place, use a dot of hot glue to keep them in place so they donât wiggle while you sew them on!
And thatâs just how I handled my booty wrap! Thereâs probably an easier way of doing it where it doesnât hike up like it does, but I was just using what I already had!
I hope this managed to help you in some way!
Hereâs some visual aides so you can see what I mean on some things, because I know trying to describe things is definitely not my forte. ^^;
