Taking Flight - Damien & Lenny
Damienās eyebrows shot up as Lenny admitted to her mishap, the image of a small Irish girl losing her teeth etching itself into his mind. A flash of sympathy crossed his features before she grinned, relief washing through him as he realised that of course, she was fine; his own lips split into a broad smile and he shook his head.Ā Waitā¦Ā "What were you doing shooting when you were still in baby teeth?" The blonde frowned and he tilted his head, noting that she immediately set about correcting his stance, as though the conversation was over.
"Uh, Iāll try," The young man shrugged a little again and smiled at her, an unfamiliar fluttering feeling settling into his stomach as the woman didnāt let him go. Swallowing the emotion, and silently cursing himself for not having the forethought to wrap up warmer, he exhaled slowly, listening to Lennyās countdown as he set his gaze back on the sign.
Once again the sound of the gun firing echoed into the sky and Damien flinched; this time the recoil caught him, snapping back and catching him just across his cheekbone. āAhāā His instant reaction was to clamp a hand to his cheek to stem the blood that was sure to flow, tears of surprise and pain springing into his eyes. āFuāā Another curse and he glanced up at the target, pleased to see that at least this time heād nicked the edge of it - it was better than nothing, even if it did come at a price. Blue eyes turned to Lenny, his body rigid in her grip. āAt least I got itā¦ā
Lenny didnāt answer his question about her childhood. It would bring up a lot of unimportant questions. Like the one he just asked. But she didnāt hold him as he prepared himself to shoot again. He was skinny and very cold, not that she could say much about that for herself, but she knew how to bundle up.
And she unwrapped around him the moment the bullet hit the sign. She was in front of him again, pulling the gun from his grip. āYeah, ye did. Good job, mate. Lemme see yer cheek.ā She dug into one of her pockets and pulled out a bandaid. Waiting for him to take his hand off of his cheek before pressing it down. Making sure not to catch any of his hair under the adhesive. She patted his cheek lightly, as if making sure the Hello Kitty bandaid was firmly attatched to his face. āYe wanna keep goināre stop fāthe day?ā
Damien moved to lower the gun, pale white fingers quickly relieved of their grasp on the weapon as it returned to Lennyās hand. His other hand released his cheek as the woman stuck the bandaid over the wound, the tears that had sprung from his eyes hesitating at his waterline. It didnāt hurt so much now, but he knew that the small cut would soon be bruised, and was more than likely to bleed through the bandaid very quickly. He raised his fingers to his face to gently press the surrounding area, his gaze trained on Lenny the entire time.
āOh wow that hurt...ā He breathed, grinning back at his friend as she patted his cheek, āWe can keep going, Iāll just have to try to be a bit more coordinated,ā Damien shivered and tucked his aching fingers back into the sleeves of his sweater, nodding towards the sign that had been his target. āMaybe I should just watch you for a bit. But hey, thanks for looking after me,ā The blonde grinned and winked at her, āIād be useless without you,ā
"When were ye plannin' t'tell me?" Lenny asked, deadly serious.
Damien stared back into those eyes that lacked mirth, held no laughter, and felt himself collapsing inwards.Ā āI-I wanted to tell you straight away, butā¦ I donāt know,ā The young man ran a hand through his hair and gazed skyward.
āIt happened so quickly, and I just didnāt know how,ā He finally answered honestly, his eyes meeting hers once again.Ā āI was drained when I found out, but thatās not an excuse, Iām sorryā¦ā

I'm not from the US, so we don't have homecoming here, but surely you don't have to conform to what everyone else wants to wear? If you're happy with the mermaid gown that you've found, you go for it! I bet it makes your ass look awesome, and if you want to show that off, you damn well should! Rock that mermaid gown :)

This isn't even true though. :/ There have been scene kids in Britain for about a decade, if not more... It's just not been on T.V because they never like to show any kind of accurate representation of British youth. 'They' don't know how to make shows for us, or shows about us. I remember 'emo' developing into 'scene' quite damn well, and trust me, that was aĀ long time ago.
Though I will admit, it did take until the early 2000s for 90s hair to die out.

At the familiar voice, Lenny jerked up to look at him, her magnifying glasses making her rounded bright eyes all the larger. The work in hand tetterred in an attempt to break, but she quickly ballanced it before storming over to him. Her glasses being stored on top of her head.
She grabbed both sides of his face harshly and just narrowed her eyes at him. Searching his grey ones. The corners of her mouth tightening. Then she pulled him down for a bone crushing hug and swayed side to side with a groan, āWhere thāhell āave ye been?ā She growled, nowhere close to letting him go.
As he watched her look up, those glasses magnifying her eyes and making her all the more adorable - though that was a word rarely attributed to her, given her feisty nature - Damien smiled almost without realising. He held his arms wide and stared back at her, his own eyes searching hers for the anger, the hatred at him vanishing on her. He inhaled deeply as she pulled him into the hug, his own thin arms wrapping around her entirely, eyes fluttering closed.
Leaning down and resting his face beside her, Damien sighed. "I'm so sorry I disappeared... I'm so sorry," Finally feeling a little too crushed by the hug, he pulled back and grasped the sides of her face in return, he kissed her gently on the forehead and paused.Ā
"There's something I have to tell you, and oh god-- You're not going to forgive me," Dropping his hands from her face, he reached down to grab his holdall and gesture inside. His pale face turned grave at his next words, guilt written across every feature. "We should probably sit down,"Ā
