As someone who loves βBeetlejuiceβ and has loved βBeetlejuiceβ for years, I still canβt believe that Lydia and Beetlejuice are a ship. No matter what piece of media we look at, itβs gross.
The original movie: Lydia is a teenager, and Beetlejuice tries to marry her against her will. I mean, Barbara literally has to protect Lydia from him. It is literally a movie pointing out the age gap and showing how the idea of romance between them is creepy.
The musical: Like the movie, Lydia is a teenager, and Beetlejuice tries to marry her against her will. There is literally a song called βCreepy Old Guyβ which once again shows how the concept of them being in a relationship is creepy.
The tv show: Yes, Beetlejuice is not a pervert in this. He and Lydia are friends and itβs wholesome and adorable, but again, they are friends. Itβs a very familial/friendly dynamic. Also, I want to add that it starts out with Lydia being twelve.
In literally all these forms, Lydia is very much a child. I understand that sheβs an adult in the new movie, but the ship is still so deep rooted in creepiness and underage x adult romance.
