I put these two images together because I've been thinking a lot about Marshell McLuhan and the impacts media has had on education especially elementary education in such a short time span. Originally, teachers were to holders of knowledge, they determined the content that was shared and how it was presented to students (the top image). Outside the box thinking was celebrated and if thinking/ideas didn't match the textbook or teachers view it was considered incorrect. Yet, now students are bombarded with information and have it at their finger tips from an infinite number of sources We encourage them to shape their in thinking/ideas and views. Innovation and outside the box thinking is encouraged and welcomed. After hearing about @cityofoshawa and the #TeachingCityInitative I was reminded of these great resource (especially great for elementary and secondary learner's) by Michael Fullen & Mia Langworthy). The great thing about new pedagogies is that everyone becomes a teacher and a leaner. Even in the physical layout of out of our classrooms has changed in conjunction with this shift away from the all knowing teacher.  Students no longer  sit in  individual rows but instead pods with flexible seating to maximize sharing and collaboration.
