“Oh wow. I suppose sometimes the move is necessary when it comes to an occupation. England does have a fabulous medical school. I was born here, but moved to London for high school, but I moved here just to get into a smaller setting for a while, and I guess… I just missed it.”

“You missed this? I do not like to be quick to judge, but there is nothing here to miss, except family, if you have it.” 

“What if you do? You never know until you actually give  try it.”

“True. But what if one one likes it? That’s what I’m really worried about. What if it isn’t good?” 

“Knowing about literature doesn’t automatically make me smart, but thank you. I’d like to think I am as well. Yes, maybe you should listen to those people. No, don’t ever apologize for getting passionate about what you enjoy. Well, um, wow. That is actually incredibly insulting. –I’m definitely not trying to soften you up, but you caught me. I could have said the Fourth of July like the vain American I am. Instead I used a French holiday.”

“It makes you smarter than a lot of the people I have met around here, then. That is at least true. Sorry that I am not overly friendly to people I have just met, the. Can you blame me for being cautious? I hardly know anyone here. ... I am not sure if that last bit was a joke or not.” 

“I always think it’s incredible when men want to do sentimental things like that–so I think you should totally do it. It’d definitely be a good way to get a girl.”

“Ah, well, I just want to do it to do it, not really for wooing anyone. You think so? Perhaps I could put it to good use, then? But it is really just for myself, I swear.”

“Fuck, man, I don’t know–I’m honestly the last person you’d want to ask about poetry.”

“Is that so? But what did you think about that last line, at least?”

“It’s your lucky day–I was flirting with you too. You ain’t too bad yourself, hot stuff. You can do it, I’m sure. I’m a magazine editor and I had to write a shit ton to get where I am. It’s not poetry, but it’s similar. Hell, a magazine in London paid me ₤700 earlier this week for an article. You’ll get there, just keep writing.”

“It really must be my lucky day, then. Thank you. Oh, maybe one day. I hope I can get that good. I mean, I am not looking to make it a job or anything, but I would like to be an excellent poet. As a hobby thing. It is good that you have managed to get that good at what you do, though.”

“Because that’s what I thought you meant when you said candles for the bedr–” Eve cut herself off, shaking her head. “You know what? Never mind. Feel free to look around. I’ll be behind the corner if you need anything else.”

“Do I look like the kind of person that would ask about something socially inappropriate?” He furrowed his eyebrows at the other. “I don’t think I want to buy a candle anymore...”

“I don’t know. I’m not a poet or anything. You should make connections with people that are, though.”

“But.... But I do not know any poets either. Are there even poets in Darlington?”

“Wow, I assume it must be beautiful… I will definitely have to go at some point. I have always been infatuated with parades. They are so interesting to me. What brings you to Darlington from France?”

“If you like parades, you’ll definitely like the one on Bastille Day. It’s gorgeous. You should look it up. Oh, well, my job, I suppose. I work at a hospital here. The branch I used to work at in London relocated me here. I moved from France to there awhile ago because medical school is better here. What about you? Why are you in Darlington?”

“You should do it. Sounds like you already got it in you to do it.”

“You really think so? I mean, that was just one line... What if I can’t think of anything more than that?”

“Honestly?  Smiles are compared to the stars far too often.  It’s a bit overdone, but still beautiful.– You don’t have to take poetry classes to write poetry, though.  Sounds like you already have the soul of a poet, so really, you just need to put a pen to paper and go from there.” 

“Overdone? Oh. I definitely think I need some sort of class. Maybe one on originality in poems. I’m  very much into romantic sorts of poems, but I feel they’ve all been done before. You really think it will be that easy?”

I had a 6. The 6 Plus was only $100 more and fit my hand better. The display is so much better on the 6 Plus too. It was kind of one of those ‘don’t think about, just do it’ kind of decision. If I had thought about it, I might not have done it, but who knows?

Isn’t the 6 Plus complete shit? I heard they break incredibly easy. I haven not had one myself, so I could not say from experience. It is just from what I have heard from the Internet. You usually don’t think when you make big purchases? $100 is around... £60, right? That’s a lot of money to some people.

“I asked you so yeah, so I am. You didn’t ay if you were though. But I mean, if you were hitting on me, I wouldn’t be like…. against it. Right. Just keep at it–you’ll get it, man.”

“Maybe I am flirting with you, then. I mean, you are attractive, after all. I hope I’ll get it. I would love to make poetry a hobby.” 

“Most times you learn nothing in those classes. A lot is learned on the streets or from poetry readings. Those teachers have hardly written anything.” 

“I hardly know where to start, though... How do you know if you are good at poetry or not?”

“Are you? Yes, I really think so. No one is good right off the bat at things. Practice makes perfect, you know? I sucked at writing and editing until i gt enough experience and practice.”

“Am I? Practice could take years, though. I don’t want it to take years.”
