What are you doing, Solas?
inspired by this incredible Iron Bull and Solas chess game edit by LethallanTV
I feel like the Iron Bull quest Demands of the Qun isn't as powerful as it could be.
I wish there were more variables in dialogue/quests with Bull so that he would make that decision on his own. In the quest, the Inquisitor tells him to save the chargers or sacrifice them.
Later, in dialogue with Solas, he says "You are a man who made a choice... Possibly the first of your life."
But it still feels like he does it because he's given permission, because he's told to. I just want Bull to make the choice on his own. To take the action for himself and separate himself from the restraints of the Qun -- which is following orders blindly.
I understand it's just game mechanics blah blah but I would have loved it if there was more you had to do to build up Iron Bull for him to make this choice than to just pick what order to give him.
I feel this way about a lot of the Inquisition companions.
Cullen’s addiction gets handled in a really similar way, where you basically tell him to get addicted to lyrium or tell him to get sober and he just does it, regardless of your relationship with him or previous interactions.
Bull is particularly egregious though, and it feels like his whole storyline is underdeveloped, which sucks because he is such a fun character. The first time I played Inquisition I thought that I had missed a quest because Demands of the Qun doesn’t really have consequences if you don’t play Trespasser.
Say what you will about Baldur’s Gate’s companions, but having the likelihood of them listening to you based on your relationship with them does add necessary stakes to their quest lines.
TLDR Inquisition really misses the mark when it comes to giving its companions agency and its companion quests consequences
Right! Cullen's could definitely be improved so he's not just taking orders. It would be interesting if how you treat Cassandra and other choices (picking mage/templars, are the mages conscripted?) makes her sway to want to redefine Seeker or double down on their lies and deceit.
And we know it can be done. It happens for Leliana's soften/harden actions with whether you let her execute the spy, etc and that controls her actions for her personal quest in Valence.
It's unfortunate that they showed it could be done, but only allowed it for one character. And I don't think they did any better with DAV.

Their trip back to Skyhold is cut short by an injury, necessitating a stop in a small Orlesian village for care. Upon return to Skyhold, preparations for the peace talks in Halamshiral continue and spirits are low. Sera has a solution for it.
A nice little inbetween episode for you. :) Introducing a fun little character to hint at what will wait them in Halamshiral, strengthening the bond between Dorian and Iron Bull, and having a little fun to relieve the tension that is the upcoming peace talks.
Next up, what is more important? An alliance with the qunari or a band of ragtag mercenaries?
Why Leliana is half dwarf
My hc theory on why Leliana is half dwarf.
The rest of the post is under the cut.
.
1 - Her mom was a servant to an Orlesian noble, and dwarven servants are common in Orlais. Nobles: Don’t be an idiot. How could the Herald of Andraste be a dwarf? Nobles: Maybe it’s just a servant.
The comments Orlesian nobles make towards a dwarf inquisitor in the Winter Palace. 2 - As it's seen in the mission In Hushed Whispers, Leliana has a very strong resistance to the Blight sickness. Dwarves are naturally resistant to the Blight sickness due to their constant proximity to the darkspawn. And in another example, the dwarves of Kal'Sharok have adapted and "become inmune" to the blight disease, similarly to Grey Wardens. So it'd make sense if she had inherited this same resistance from her mom.
No, no, keep talking. I like this. I didn't see the codex before about resistant blood... 👀

Dalish Clans
As I further develop the Lavellan clan in my longfic, By Gods Forsaken, I'm starting to wonder about all the other clans. Sure they meet up every ten years or something to share knowledge, but due to their lifestyle they must be vastly different with their own issues. (I do really like the theory of roaming keepers I saw here before -- if I find it, I'll link it)
You've got Zathrian's clan with the nature spirit and werewolves in DAO, Merril's clan and the mirror in DA2, and we don't really get to see much detail of any clan in DAI (Hawen's clan in the Exalted Plains doesn't even have a clan name associated with it!) and DATV is so focused on the two escaped gods, only the Veil Jumpers get some sort of detail and its not much.
While my Lavellan clan keeper is following a "mission" she believes the Emerald Knight that founded their clan wanted to happen (mentioned in the most recent chapter beginning flashback), I wonder what other goals the other clans might have.
A clan that focuses on military might with the goal to retake Halamshiral (probably allied with Briala as she attempts to keep the War of the Lions raging)
A clan focused on herbs and potions to try to bring back elven immortality through other means
A clan attempting to restore an ruin in Arlathan in order to call their gods home (awakens something else?)
A clan that believes Fen'harel split himself into wolves so that he could live forever and that if they destroy all his wolf forms, the gods will be free
A clan that worships the Forgotten Ones, believing that since they are not imprisoned they may be the only hope to regain elven glory and destroy the shemlen
A clan that hides deep in the korcari wilds and refuses civilization, believing the world was never meant to be tamed with buildings and roads and politics and that the wilds will reclaim everything eventually (very pro-Veil removal)
A clan that is well-known with outerlying human villages since they are very friendly and are the only traders that run by these villages, giving them products that they don't have access to and trading skills
A clan that is heavily influenced by nearby dwarven trading and shared knowledge that they have adopted a lot of enchantment and secret lyrium techniques (perhaps Bellara's clan?)
I could keep going, but I should be writing. I want to hear other ideas! What other clans do you think would be cool to be in the game?
Anyone else get spam like this?
They give the chatgpt bare minimum compliment and then, if you respond, mention they have "ideas" they want to share with you. Whats the purpose? Whats the end goal? I generally mark as spam before it gets too far, but will they charge me for ideas?? This isnt the usual AI fanart racket, but I've gotten this exact wording of "is it planned or do you let it evolve" so many times.
An incident leaves the Inquisition without their Fade scholar as they charge on the final outpost of the Freemen. Will Ellana be able to harness this new rift ability with the anchor or will it tear her apart?
The conclusion for the Exalted Plains is now posted! And yes, it includes the All New, Faded for Her quest. What happens when Solas leaves the party without Ellana fully capable of controlling the anchor?

I saw a post the other day with interest in Dragon Age lore and it was mainly focused on a statue that had two sets of shoulders and two sets of arms and I'm mad I didn't reblog it because now I want to be able to find it so I can look into that statue. Has anyone seen this post?
Immediately after I hit send, I found the post: here
Because I'm a dumbass who remembers that you can go back through your likes. Anyway VERY happy to find this! yay yay yay

That one banter on the war table…Leliana doesn’t comment on it but I know in my heart she was putting that nonchalant spymaster facade on hard to pretend she didn’t want to even take a peek
Although it is probably because BioWare didn't want to go into the hassle of adding all the magic trees of DAO, I love to imagine the only reason why the Inquisitor has primarily the School of Primal magical talents is because Quizzy just like to blow a bunch of shit up, at least the Trevelyan Quizzy.
Shit. I should add some magic trees to the Emerald Graves! But where?

Why was Solas so vicious with Rook?
For MOST of the game Solas is rather vicious with Rook, and with reason if you take a look at his character:
You can have him warm up to you as you contineau playing the game, or make him stay the same condescending, mocker - with regards in how he racts to Rook. Rook literally did the one thing he hated most; Acted in ignorance and it nearly cost him and the entire world everything. All he sacrificed, all he betrayed and hurt rendered into NOTHING because of Rook interupting what they didnt understand and ignorantly putting themselves into his ritual.
Its why if you zoom in on his face when the Evanuris escaped, you see him cry. Everything he did: made pointless. He's crying cause he just killed Varric, he killed Mythal, he killed Fellassan, he sacrificed a host of spirits, he betrayed and abandonned his only love, and left all the friends he made in INQ behind. Im not suprised Solas was so vicious to Rook.
Replaying Inquisition, doing the DLC - what do you mean the Shaperate write all of their archives using lyrium?????
I just cannot even express how much that gets to me. Knowing what we do about Orzammar and the way the kingdom operates from Origins, the Shaperate aren't so much an archive as they are a tool for the ruling class.
Orzammar changes their history to fit a politically convenient image all the time, and they do so in the blood of the titans, the origin of their entire people.
Entire houses, entire components of history, people and paragons have been struck from the records in an instant, only to have their existence rewritten and reworked to fit the agenda of whoever is on the throne.
The Shaperate preserve their propaganda in the blood of their fucking ancestors.
