I reblogged about this several months ago after recognising the stock shape from something I’d seen before, either a picture in a book or an old, old model kit.

Turns out it was a bit of both. The pic wasn’t from a book but from here…

…where the auctioneers speculate it might be a 19th or 20th century repro.

Artists Wesley Tippetts and Nicholas Hunter credit it as a source in this how-it-was-done article.

The model kit was this:

…based on this hunting rifle possibly owned by Elector Maximilian I of Bavaria.

Here’s a much plainer version of the same stock design from about 1600.

I may be mistaken, but neither look like the most comfortable shapes in the world to be recoil-thumped against a shoulder; I suppose the prettiness of the fancier weapon is meant to compensate for any bruises.

If you have property or live next to property with access to dark unlit areas it probably be in your best interest to set up infrared emitters at the entrances, attic, basement, or crawl space of your home. The little shits can't stand light on the infrared spectrum.
