Weapon name: Shotgun of the Turks

Shotgun was raised in Mideel and comes from a wealthy and distinguished family, where hunting was considered an essential part of her upbringing. Having been trained from an early age, she became highly skilled with firearms and developed the refined manners expected of someone of noble upbringing. Perhaps as a result of her privileged childhood, she often comes across as haughty and somewhat high-handed. Beneath this confident exterior, however, she struggles to express her true feelings and uses her pride to mask her embarrassment and vulnerability.

Despite her composed image, Shotgun can be rather overdramatic in Before Crisis, enthusiastically rushing to rescue others while confidently insisting on protecting them—even in situations where she is the one being rescued. This earnest yet slightly exaggerated behavior has become one of her defining personality traits.

In the original Before Crisis dialogue, Shotgun speaks in the refined and elegant manner expected of a young lady from an upper-class family.

Weapon name: Rod of the Turks

Rodd is a former gang leader who rose to prominence at the age of eighteen. Born on Midgar's upper plate, he first crossed paths with the Turks after breaking into the Shinra Building in an attempt to steal a motorcycle. His plan was thwarted when he was defeated by Reno, an encounter that ignited his competitive spirit and inspired him to climb the ranks of the Turks. A skilled mechanic, Rodd is an expert in motorcycle maintenance and repair, as well as an exceptional driver capable of operating a wide variety of vehicles. Although his weapon of choice is a rod similar to Reno's, unlike Reno's, it is not electrically charged.

Rodd's personality is characterized by his competitive nature and laid-back demeanor. Despite his rough upbringing, he forms a close bond with his fellow Turks and is particularly at ease around Reno and Rude. He also has a notable dislike of snow.

In the original Before Crisis dialogue, Rodd consistently speaks in a rough and informal manner, especially when interacting with Reno or Rude. Unlike most of the other Turks, he rarely uses the honorific language that reflects the traditional senior-junior dynamic in Japanese.

Weapon name: Gun of the Turks

Aphromia is a straight-A scholar who graduated from the Shinra Military Academy at the top of her class. Born in the Midgar Slums, she distinguished herself through exceptional academic performance and marksmanship, with shooting skills said to rival those of her father, a firearms instructor. Her diligence, discipline, and professionalism have earned her the respect of her comrades, although her younger sister Elena views her as overly serious and somewhat straight-laced.

Aphromia's relationship with her father is portrayed as being rooted more in professionalism than familial affection, with their interactions resembling those of an instructor and his pupil rather than a traditional father and daughter.

The first glance at the characters that appeared in the BEFORE CRISIS-FINAL FANTASY VII-CHAPTER 1 Turks Business.

𝙰𝚙𝚑𝚛𝚘𝚖𝚒𝚊, 𝙶𝚞𝚗 𝚘𝚏 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚃𝚞𝚛𝚔𝚜. One of the possible protagonists of this game and Elena's older sibling. I'm not sure we'll get to see the rest of the cast, but one thing I'm absolutely sure about is that their parents clearly loved her more if they gave her such an intricate name.

P.S. I have a theory that her name is a combination of Aphrodite and Mia. Considering that, in the original game, Elena has an ability that lets her charm one of the party members, having a little bit of Aphrodite in her sister's name feels pretty fitting. The name Mia has three meanings: beloved, mine, and bitter. All three seem to suit her quite well, since her backstory tells us that she was the favored child in the family and looked down on her younger sister to some extent.

P.S. I believe Final Fantasy VII: Last Order established the names of the BC Turks, although, as far as I remember, it is not considered canon due to certain discrepancies with Crisis Core.

Take this with a Weapon-sized grain of salt, but here’s an intriguing detail I noticed while digging through my old notes for writings.

In the Before Crisis trailer, Judy, aka agent Martial Arts, uses an ability similar to Loz’s from Advent Children.

Both glow in similar blue-purpleish colors while performing it, and Loz repeats Judy’s move almost frame by frame when he attacks Cloud.

My notes say that the Before Crisis Ultimania describes Judy as a highly skilled fighter capable of taking on multiple enemies at once and leaving them all beaten in literal moments. Loz uses his ability to dodge bullets and Cloud’s attacks alike, which sounds like the means to do exactly what Judy’s description implies. Don’t take my word for it, though, because I couldn’t pull up the exact quote from the Ultimania. If anyone recognizes what I’m talking about and can share it, please do—I’d really appreciate it.

Still, if that implication is indeed there, I wonder: could the remnants have been trained in VR using the Turks’ training-session data back when Hojo was experimenting on them in Nibelheim? If so, Loz may have obtained the ability from Judy.

That said, while in Judy’s case this is 100% a Materia effect; a Cover, to be precise, as it suits her specialty best and explains teleports (Deadly Dodge wasn't invented back then).

Loz is Sephiroth’s remnant, meaning he’s too special for standard lore explanations to apply neatly. He first uses this ability to one-shot Tifa in the church, well before the remnants equip any Materia.

It could also be tied to his Dual Hound, much like weapon-based abilities in the Remake series, but I doubt that system was on the developers’ minds back then. Another possibility is that Loz just casually grabbed a Cover Materia somewhere in the Northern Crater, and that’s that, but I don’t think I’ve ever stumbled upon anything like this in the novels or official sources.

Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed in a new Denfamico interview for FF7 Revelation that Reno’s Japanese VA has already been chosen. He also mentioned that the game will explore Reno’s role, along with the rest of the Turks, in greater depth.
