One of the rarest things in this world is great friend. Everyone has at least one good friend or a friend but a great one is something you should never ever take for granted. They are not easy to find.
Friendships have been something I hold dear to me and really because I’ve lost a lot of friends. I moved away from my childhood friend in the 6th grade and I mean like we were inseparable. I found out a year ago from my Mom he actually had passed away in an accident. I’ve had “friends” all of a sudden decide they wanted to beat me up because I wasn’t cool anymore. I’ve had “friends” who emotional beat me down and stabbed me in the back in pretty much the most terrible ways. In high school another friend of mine which she was an ex-girlfriend of mine passed away in a car accident. This was the single most heart breaking thing I’ve ever experienced because she was truly a great friend. Whenever I think of the time I got the call at 3am finding out she passed away and racing downtown through traffic, running full sprint to the hospital doors only to make it too late to see her one last time it still kills me.
It wasn’t until a few years ago I found a bunch of really great friends. Again this wasn’t easy nor an over night kind of thing. I consider Jake one of these great friends. When I was invited years back to do a live show in Chicago by Jake for one of my first live shows the moment we said “Hey” at the airport we were instant friends. Guy is incredibly selfless and always helps me when I need help. When the Soda Parlor was being built he was up there for a month mixing concrete, helping the build out and didn’t want any kind of payment. He said he just wanted to help.
The point of this post is I randomly was watching an old video of mine and I see this comment like 2 months ago. I read it and I chuckled at it because it was mainly about me but then I realize “this person just called my friend a idiot”. If it was just me whatever but I sat there thinking if this happened on anywhere else I would totally say something because no one calls my freaking friend an idiot. Except me! Because I’m his friend but I wouldn’t never do it because I’m his freaking friend. The internet by nature is a mean place and you can call me anything you want. But if anyone calls any of my friends anything I deem to not truly represent them like how I know them then we “gots” problems. And the same should apply to you guys and gals stick up for your friends not matter what or where. At your lowest points sometimes all you will have is your friends. And last year I hit some low points and right there with me were my friends…great ones.
