Summary:

His scroll lit up and started to vibrate. The name “Darius" popped up on the screen above the number. His was one of the only numbers Hunter had saved in his contacts list. Hunter yelped, vibrating scroll jumping between his hands as he struggled to keep a grip on the device. In the movement he must've hit a button because all of a sudden a familiar voice sounded out: “Little Prince?”

Hunter froze in place.

And when Hunter hugged him, his head buried under Darius’ chin as he whispered that he trusted Darius and loved him- and Darius had still gotten hurt and sent to the hospital when Hunter was who knows where- (He was running. He was slow and he had to keep pausing to gasp for air, but he needed to get home. To Hunter. Darius might be having a panic attack. Walking toward him and putting his hand over the kid’s head feels as natural as breathing, as right as a heartbeat. He can practically feel him relaxing under the palm of his ungloved hand, and it brings a sense of familiarity he hadn’t realized he had been missing until now.

The last piece of the little puzzle that makes up his family adjusting into place perfectly.

“It’s good to see you, little prince.”

Hunter laughs, his voice in a far higher pitch than he remembers, and yet the warmth that overtakes his chest is just the same.
