i can tell i’m sleep deprived bc i just made myself cry about tutankhamun and i have, like, negative interest in the kid
have now made the rest of the discord cry about this little boy who had multi-coloured ducks sewn onto a tunic that he loved so much he wore it to a Very Important Event because he was EIGHT and have you SEEN my DUCKS
sorry no i’m not done i’m gonna make you all cry some more i’m bringing you down with me
there was once a little boy.
he is born disabled. his body hurts, and he can’t walk properly the way the other children do. he doesn’t understand why. he’s a little boy. but he plays with wooden boats and pulls toys on a string.
somebody makes him a tunic. they sew ducks onto it in red and green and yellow and blue. the bright colours of a child.
the little boy is eight years old, and he’s going to be king now. there’s a big ceremony about it. he doesn’t really fully understand what’s going on, because he’s eight, but he wears the tunic with the brightly coloured ducks for the occasion because he loves it. look at his ducks! aren’t they great?
he is a child. the adults around him manipulate and coax him to gain more power for themselves. he still plays with toys.
as a teenager, not yet an adult, he fathers children. they do not survive. he’s not even old enough to have full agency in his job and is still being manipulated, but he had babies and they died.
he does not make it to his twenties. at eighteen or nineteen years old he dies, and is buried. his babies, so tiny, are buried with him.
and so is his tunic with the little ducks that he loved so much he kept it long after it no longer fit.
there was once a little boy.
yeah i think that like. especially with historical figures in your mind people who were kings and queens or important nobles were adults. even if you know how old they were it doesn’t really click. it doesn’t seem real
but then you get something like a little tunic with brightly coloured ducks on it and it hits you like a fucking truck that this really was a little kid and no matter how far removed you are a little kid is still a little kid. their brains didn’t develop any quicker back then. he was just as developed/mature mentally as any 8 year old now. he had cartoonish animals on his clothes and he played with toy boats and probably terrorised the local cat population.
tutankhamun was a child and he didn’t make it to adulthood because he was unfortunate enough to be a very important child
his dad died when he was 8. he saw his own babies die when he was still just a boy himself.
but he had brightly coloured little ducks on his favourite shirt, and he kept it.
and he did not just keep the duckie shirt either
tutankhamun had a little pair of sandals with ducks on them. he had earrings decorated with ducks. he kept those, and other items of childhood clothing. some toys. keepsakes. things he loved, and treasured. he kept them all in a little wooden chest. the chest… was carved with ducks.
and that little duck chest, filled with things he kept from his childhood, was buried with him. maybe he was keeping them for the little babies who did not make it. maybe they just reminded him of good days and fun times.
but he was a little boy who thought ducks were just the best
WITH PLEASURE
(greyscale makes it hard but the duck head is on the right above the toe strap. always takes me a while to find it too)
Ok but this is how to teach history. This is how you get people to pay attention, to care. Find something small and make it personal, then zoom out to the wider context. History is best taught as a story, with people who lived their lives in ways that came together to create something remarkable that we still talk about today, but who were still just human at the end of the day. They kissed, argued, cried, and dreamed just like we do. And sometimes they really liked ducks.
I want to point out that there are at least two obvious duck heads on the sandals (circled in red) but!
The patterns between them, to either side of what looks like lilypad/lotus flower petals, could very well be “ducks as seen from above.” There is a beak on the lower edge, a clear “head” shape above/behind it, darker ovals that look like folded wings, and a body/tail. I didn’t see the red circled ducks first, I saw the “swimming on a pond” ducks amongst the lotus flowers.
Once again, process video Tuesday!

I got another fun one! Adrien explaining to Natalie and/or Felix about his plans for the museum :D!
The thing about acting is it's really just lying with his entire body at once. Felix doesn't realize he's practiced at it, and Nathalie seems to exist in a time bubble where he's somehow fifteen and two at the same time. But the world is insisting on treating him like a child, and he's honestly enjoying a little bit of Plagg's chaos.
"I thought I'd have a room for Mom's film." He is saying, while Felix and Nathalie are apparently locked in a moment of shock and horror. "Maybe we could have showings? Do you think we could remodel the ballroom?" Felix makes a noise somewhere very close to a sob. Nathalie is gripping the coffee cup like it's the only thing between her and the reality of a vampire outside the door. Delightful.
They both lied to him, and he's accepted it. He's embraced it even. But that doesn't mean that he can't have a bit of fun before he drops the ruse. "Nathalie, you still have some of his first designs, don't you?" She makes a sound in the back of her throat. "Of course you do." He laughs. "It'll be great. Fashion history of Paris! I've found so many magazine stories." "Adrien....." Felix says, strained, pained. "I-what do you mean?" "A museum. About my family. Should we include Grandfather as well?" Felix's eyes go briefly unfocused, face a bit green.

There are some characters where giving them therapy and cleaning them up is the fanfiction equivalent of buying antique furniture and painting it white
My child, who spends their entire life being transfered from home to car to school and back, and is not allowed to leave the house or talk to anyone and can only in their wildest dreams imagine a life free from constant surveillance, is very sad. Obviously they're dumb and lazy, like all kids these days.
kind of a tangent but i recently went to a bowling alley with my friend i'm 19 he's 18 and the woman at the door didn't want to let us in because there was a sign saying under-18s needed adult supervision. everything got cleared up and we were able to go bowl, but i'm still so mad about the fact that kids need adult supervision to go to a bowling alley and arcade. like okay maybe young kids should have supervision but what do you mean middle and high schoolers need to hold mommy's hand while they play video games. kids aren't just addicted to their phones because phones are addicting, we're addicted to our phones because there's nothing else to fucking do
I'm sure banning kids from online spaces while simultaneously not ensuring that they have access to offline spaces to socialize in (without having to rely on their parents who already don't have time for them) will help them feel better & less alienated from society.
As I said, one-and-three-quarter years ago:
If you're going to take away kids' smartphones, then give them back the streets.
I deleted the photo for phone storage but I was at a public square kind of space in Cleveland, there were restaurants all around and a little open air market and food trucks and a local band playing. Some flower beds. Benches. a nice spot to sit, hang out, enjoy the outdoors and get some yummy food. And there was a sign saying anyone under 18 there after 4 pm. had to be accompanied by an adult. There was a posted minimum age the adult had to be. There was a posted minor-to-adult ratio. what's more, the sign explicitly made the exception for underage employees of nearby establishments, provided they were there during scheduled work hours (they'll take your labor, but won't suffer you to enjoy the fruits of it)
When I was "under 18" I had a job and friends from different parts of town and options for transportation. I volunteered at a food bank. I had an income and the desire to spend it. and I would have been told to leave if I had the audacity to go hang out in a community space without a grown up.
My parents made the point that teens often cause a Ruckus which can be unpleasant to be around. which is true but 1) adults are just as capable of being a public nuisance and 2) if they can enforce this rule, surely they can enforce rules such as "no swearing" or "no loud music" or "no roughhousing" or whatever else they're afraid will happen if a teenager goes out in public.
It's sad.
repeating this to myself forever and ever
MAGA boomers SHOCKED by 20y/o commie speaking fluent hog
Hog 201 for anyone interested in trying this:
Bodily autonomy (like abortion, anti draft, etc) -> “The government shouldn’t be able to force anything on my body I don’t want.”
Anti surveillance -> “I don’t trust big government/big tech (big brother if you’re feeling frisky) with the ability to spy on me and my family.”
Immigration -> “Next to all of us immigrated at some point, I don’t see why the elites get to decide who’s allowed to be where. What’s to stop them coming for me?”
Climate Change -> “Big oil shouldn’t get to determine whether or not I get to go places. I don’t want to be dependent on some big business to survive.”
State Violence -> “I don’t want the goddamn secret police breathing down my neck! I trust my community a whole hell of a lot more to help me than I do the state!”
The vast majority of conservatives think of themselves as underdogs being repressed by the government/the elite, and they value personal freedom (specifically their personal freedom, they don’t care about other people). The will almost always agree with leftist points if you can find a way to blame the problem on their vague enemies (useful, since rich people are the root of most problems), and tie it back to their ability to say fuck everyone else. NEVER appeal to science, theory, logic, or human goodness. Make it seem as if you are a paranoid lunatic who trusts no one. They love it.
#you need to tailor your arguments to people's existing values and priorities if you want to convince them #the flip side is that it's every bit as easy to tailor conservative arguments to convince a leftist audience #so don't get smug #you're not immune to this either <- prev extremely true

For all my fellow oversharers out there.
As a chronic people-pleaser, this is my advice for success.
Offer as little as possible. Be terse. Get rid of all those exclamation marks and tidbits about why you want to take a sick day. State your needs clearly and concisely without reason. Start saying “No, I’m unable.” more often. Say Thank You only when the other party deserves it.
hgtv show hosts: we made this dark disgusting house into a nice bright warm cozy masterpiece
the house:
needs a pop of color . . . I think some red accents would really give it that homey feel :)
This won’t make your blog look ugly. How could you not reblog this? REBLOGGING THIS COULD SAVE A LIFE!!!
This goes for assholes, too, guys. I know a couple who went tubing once, and they had to re-air their tubes, but the guy thought it would be funny to stick the tip of the air compressor up to her bikini trunks, the air ruptured something inside her and she died within thirty minutes.
WHAT?
The thing about this? It’s in every pregnancy book I’ve read.
WHAT?????
Why is it in pregnancy books but not sex ed books?
Because the men in charge only care about the health and safety of women in so far as it enables them to have babies.
https://www.healthline.com/health/air-embolism#outlook
Reblogging with a link because I thought this was a legit joke. Never heard it before. Like I knew you could kill a person by inserting air into a vein but still.
WHAT THE FUCL I hate how I didn’t learn this in sex Ed AT ALL
This is very true lol
Yo what the f u c k
not the normal stuff i’d reblog but, uh, this is kinda??? heckin???? important?????
I feel like I first saw this in The Joy of Sex, but it’s definitely a thing.
What the fuck
i-
….thank you tumblr??
hm.
I legit thought this was a shitpost until I saw the rest of the comments
I first saw this in The Joy of Sex, too.
Well I never
As a general rule of thumb, do not push air into any bodily orifice, regardless of gender. It never ends well. Air compressors and the human body do NOT mix.
Not even the mouth, shit can rupture a lung.
I’m asexual but reblogging to potentially save lives
ok kids repeat after me
vinegar and bleach makes chlorine gas, which is highly toxic
ammonia and bleach makes chloramine, which is highly toxic
rubbing alcohol and bleach makes chloroform, which is highly toxic
hydrogen peroxide and vinegar makes peracetic/peroxyacetic acid, which can be highly corrosive
be careful about your cleaning products and dont get yourself injured or potentially killed ok
why it so dangerous to be clean
As someone who’s job is to handle chemicals like this, I need to state that this information is IMPORTANT. Plenty of people have accidentally injured or killed themselves at home because they didn’t know what kind of reaction certain substances have with one another. Play it safe and don’t mix chemicals.
Also don’t use bleach to clean up urine it’ll create chloramine bc of the ammonia in it and you can give yourself chemical pnemonia that way
Every time I see “helpful” posts telling people to mix these things while cleaning I cringe with my entire body.
reblogging in this time of heightened interest in disinfectants. please don’t get fancy
Pick one. Stick with that one.
Shout out to all the Black ppl that can no longer participate directly in the fandom they love because of the stresses of racism 👍🏾 you contain multitudes of value and I'm sorry that the color of your skin and the power of your voice makes people not want to acknowledge that.
Yes, nonblack people can reblog. I'd appreciate it, in fact, if y'all took the time to vocally support your Black friends/fans in fandom.

Keep thinking about this Austin Walker post that now lives in my brain. It's a reply to people saying genAI can help creators 'develop concepts' and waste less time on research (x)

OHHHH Plagg and Adrien!
'He never expected those eyes to turn hard like that. Not at him.'
Plagg has had his share of bad holders. Probably more than his fair share, honestly. But he'd take them over the others getting wrapped up in human conflicts. Even if it meant entire cycles and holders that never liked each other. Even if it meant....well. He would rather take it, Destruction takes the hit, Creation gets the pass and Tikki....it breaks her heart, but they always know how it will end when their holders are fighting. Adrien is different. Both of the current kids are different, in a way that Plagg doesn't want to think on too hard because it makes him feel so damned hopeful and he knows it never lasts. But he never expected those eyes to turn hard like that - sure, the kid has a temper. He's seen it before. Under that cheerful innocent mask, the kid is a killer. He knows that, even if that particular shoe hasn't dropped yet.
He expected the hardness, is the thing. Over time, all his kids get it. Some of them come to him tempered already, sharpened by life until all Plagg becomes is a final push. The final scream of a stone on steel before a blade is ready for use. The thing is, and it isn't fair, because the look is deserved. But he never expected Adrien's eyes to go hard like that at him. "You knew." The accusation has none of the feathering, the slight fondness that colors every other interaction. The softening that made everything easier. "Kid-" Plagg starts. "Don't lie to me, Plagg." And it's an order, in the way that so much else hasn't been. In the way that Adrien has never exerted his will over him in their partnership.
"I knew." Plagg agrees, wilting. Adrien is up in a moment, pacing his room, his entire body taunt - a bowstring made of boy that is finding a target. Anger is easier than grief, in some ways. Harder in others. Plagg waits, he doesn't have to. Adrien hasn't ordered him still or silent. But he waits for the war inside the boy he has let himself love to resolve itself for good or ill. Adrien stops in the middle of the floor, his back to Plagg, his head thrown back like a sunflower seeking light even though the midnight air around them is cold and dark. For whatever else they had done, Duusu had made something beautiful. Someone beautiful. Galatea wandering the world, now without his creators to guide him. Only Plagg, and Plagg knows he's a shit guide.
He's expecting the anger when Adrien turns around, but the grief that makes those green eyes look like shattered glass punches straight through him. "Kid." Plagg breathes, and goes to him at once. He doesn't make it before Adrien's knees hit the floor.
