3 Cycle Brakes Defined in Brief
For those who havenβt checked the video explaining major brake systems so far, it would be helpful for them to get a glimpse here-Β
V Brakes or Direct Pull Brakes feature long cables and double levers attached to the bicycleβs handlebar. The cables run from one side of the brake and across the top engaging both the front and rear brakes. Pulling the levers causes the cables to pull up making the brake pads press tight the rim of the bicycle, which eventually slows down the ride.Β
V Brakes are known to be of little maintenance and can be replaced at ease.Β
Mechanical Disc Brakes feature a steel cable linking the brake lever to the brake caliper. It transfers the braking force from the lever to pistons forcing the brake pads to cause a brake (slow down and eventually stop the ride).Β
In Hydraulic Disc Brakes it is a brake fluid (contained inside a master cylinder) that transmits the braking force from the lever to the caliper. On pressing a brake lever it pushes the piston inside the master cylinder transmitting the brake fluid to come in contact with the brake caliper. The piston carries the braking force forcing the brake pads to stimulate the disc rotor to slow down eventually.
Sounds complicated?Β
Obviously! To newbie cyclists it would definitely sound complicated unless the person has interest in mechanical engineering.Β
